After completing Zero Time Dilemma all I want to do is go back through all three games with the knowledge I've gained through the series, and see how far back everything is foreshadowed and set up. This isn't just an impressive game in its own right, but a fantastic trilogy that should be experienced by anyone looking for a good sci-fi puzzle thriller.
Patapon Remastered most certainly looks and plays the part, shining beautifully on the PS4 with zero hiccups in gameplay during my experience. Due to the repetitive grindy nature, however, it is best left bookending longer play sessions of other games, and is ill-suited to a home console, unless you could take it on the go as well, as with the Switch.
Pyre's world is full of dynamic characters with unique motivations, darkly vibrant backdrops that look like paintings, and a soundtrack that you'll be humming for days, weeks, even months to come. It might be slow to start, but once it picks up it never looks back. The Rites are exciting and addictive, and you'll always want to play “just one more round.” Even when the game is over, you'll want to have at least one more round through the whole thing, just to see how things might turn out differently. Pyre is an admirable addition to both Supergiant's repertoire and any gamer's collection.
Seasons After Fall is a gorgeous year-round romp through the forest that will pull at the heartstrings on more than one occasion. Every season brings fun and different dynamics to the game, complemented superbly by the soundtrack. Some puzzles and load times may frustrate, but they're not enough to detract from the overall charm and enjoyment of the game.
Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Games Series kicks off with a mixed bag of feelings. The episode is funny but boring, touching, yet unrefined. The gameplay is slick, but the quick-time events are a chore. It flips and flops between ‘intriguing mystery' and ‘mediocrity at its okayest,' but there's plenty of room to get better. Now that the stage has been set, I am ready for episode 2 to go the distance.
Developer Spike Chunsoft knocks it out of the park with The Nonary Games. The puzzles in both 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward are challenging and rewarding, but it’s their stories that really make you stop and think while trying to figure it all out.
When looking at the entire package, This Is the Police is a decent way to kill time in short bursts, but anything more than an hour at a time just feels like a chore. Despite the awkward political moments and somewhat monotonous gameplay, the skewed perspective of good vs. evil makes for an engaging story.
Everything provides a mellow environment to explore, with the perfect auditory compliments for your journey. The experience may be lost on some, but that's okay. Others will thoroughly enjoy getting lost in the experience, despite minor frustrations like the needle-in-a-haystack search.
My Dog Zorro have knocked it out of the park with this deceptively simple and deep puzzler, and I can’t wait for what they’ve got in store for us next. It’s easy to overlook title like this with so much amazing AAA-fare going around like NieR: Automata and Horizon: Zero Dawn, but make no mistake: Linelight is not to be missed.
Thanks to some excellent all-new content and the most polished HD remaster the series has yet seen, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue successfully and beautifully sets the stage for the big showdown of light versus dark in Kingdom Hearts 3. A must-have for fans, and a primo starting point for newcomers.
There are plenty of nostalgic aspects present in this crisp and beautiful high-definition title, reminiscent of games gone by. At the same time it shakes things up with some drastic changes to the game play that can be too jarring for some to want to put up with, making it a bit of a black sheep to many. For those who take the time to master the play style, however, it is incredibly rewarding and satisfying.
At the end of it all, however, episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Michonne is brutal and unforgiving in all the best ways. Our heroine struggles not just in her present predicament, but also in the past with the loss of her family.
All things considered, The Walking Dead: Michonne is off to a decent start with plenty of room for improvement. Most of the new characters may feel like zombie fodder, but they've got some interesting personalities that will be fun to follow.
Finally wrapping up a game you've been gradually playing over the better part of a year is always bittersweet, and if that finale falls short the entire experience feels soiled and tainted as a result. Happily, the Tales from the Borderlands finale will make the 10-month lead-up completely worth it, and you'll likely find yourself wanting to go back through and play it all from the beginning in rapid succession. At the end there's just one question left to be answered: when will More Tales from the Borderlands be announced?
Assault Android Cactus is the first game from indie developers Witch Beam, and one they've been working hard to polish and perfect for several years now.While the story definitely missed on some untapped potential, this is a perfect benchmark that leaves the studios future one to definitely look forward to.
Westerado is a fun game for anyone, so long as they've got the patience to learn the controls and can take some time for target practice. The game can be beat in 4 hours running blind, or under 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, making it easy to pick up for a lazy afternoon.
While the standard high school drama bullshit is still incredibly prevalent, Life is Strange is shaping up to be so much more than that. Episode 1 showed great promise, and episode 2 delivers on the potential. It brings suspense and intrigue to the forefront, while still tackling the science fiction and drama effectively. Emotions run high in multiple points, always keeping you eager to see what's going to happen next.
