Giuseppe Nelva's Reviews

"Hailing from sunny (not as much as people think) Italy and long standing gamer since the age of Mattel Intellivision and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth."

I really hope that the development team gets that chance.

Total War: Pharaoh isn't a terrible game, but it's definitely not the grand return to the heyday of historical Total War games that fans have been desperately waiting for.

5.5 / 10.0 - Hatred
Jun 1, 2015

It's a pretty competent action game with really great visuals, but marred by quite a few flaws. If you don't like playing with keyboard and mouse, then steer clear, but if you don't mind putting your controller aside, and you enjoy the genre, it can be worth quite a few hours of your time. I didn't hate Hatred, but I didn't really love it either. Yet, it's a pretty promising debut for a new indie team.

Hopefully, the developers will keep working on it down the line because the base is solid and Santiago is really a great airport to visit, located in a beautiful area of an equally charming country.

Yet, I can't lie: I hope that Sega will interpret the reception of this game as a signal that we want more Valkyria Chronicles, and that this kind of spin-off is better explored when the hunger for the main course has been sated, and not when we're all starving.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is far from perfect, and I don’t see it bringing home any Game of the Year titles, but in today’s gaming landscape it’s certainly fairly unique. If that kind of uniqueness is what you enjoy, then you’ll most probably feel right at home on Zack’s new island. I certainly did, and plan to continue doing so for quite a while. Since the game won’t be available on the western market, the review copy used for this article was kindly provided by PlayAsia.

The return of Star Ocean could have certainly been better, but if you love the genre (and you’re used to its quirks) and the series, you’ll most probably find plenty to enjoy in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness.

With a PS4 and Xbox One release scheduled for some time this year, there is still room for this game to fulfill its potential. Yet, the console audience is even less forgiving than PC gamers when it comes to technical problems. We can only hope that the development team will learn from the mistakes made with the Steam release, use us PC gamers as guinea pigs for as long as it takes (we're used to it anyway), and then bring forth a more solid package on consoles.

Ultimately, if you plan to fly in the area, this add-on is pretty much required. I can’t even imagine simulating any kind of flight operation to or from Chongqing to any acceptable standard without having it.

Ultimately, Helsinki has a few aspects that could be improved, but it’s certainly a competent add-on that can enrich your flights to and from the Nordic countries. If you care for flying in Finland in Microsoft Flight Simulator, or for adding the hub of another European capital to your collection, the large improvements over the default scenery certainly make Helsinki-Vantaa Airport an addon you likely will appreciate.

On the other hand, if you're on the market for a competent and interesting city builder with some casual JRPG toppings sprinkled on, adorable artwork, great voice acting, and a veritable celebration of the legacy of the Atelier series and of its many characters, I can definitely recommend giving Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World a try.

You'll possibly come for the waifus, but you'll probably stay for the story and most importantly for the fun and interesting gameplay.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dynasty Warriors 9
Feb 13, 2018

While combat remains exhilarating and fun in a way that will feel familiar to veterans of the series, Dynasty Warriors 9 isn't just one versus a thousand anymore. We're part of a war that unfolds all around us, with plenty of allies in need of help and enemies begging for a healthy beating. It's a bold step in the right direction, and while Omega Force may have overextended in certain aspects, the fun outweighs the jank and the experience remains one that I am eager to return to and to see improved and further evolved in Dynasty Warriors 10 or Samurai Warriors 5.

7.5 / 10.0 - Attack on Titan
Aug 26, 2016

Of course fans of the series will appreciate the game even more, as it's a quite faithful representation of what you have seen on TV. It's rare, but anime-inspired games that do justice to their source material exist, and while Attack on Titan is far from perfect, it's definitely one of those.

Perhaps Mass Effect Andromeda will serve as a wake-up call for BioWare, letting them realize that it’s time to evolve beyond the change of  setting and cast. In the meanwhile, we’re still given a game that might not be the monumental fresh start that the masses expected, but is still a quite solid experience than many will enjoy.

Ultimately, the visual novel is by a wide margin the best way to experience the Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse story, leaving the anime far behind.

4 / 5.0 - Relayer
Mar 22, 2022

If, however, you enjoy your anime, mecha, turn-based tactics, and a deep and interesting story with a rich cast of attractive characters, it’s easy to recommend Relayer. It’s really as close to a playable sci-fi anime as it gets, and I’m all for it.

Ultimately, it’s a great game that will almost inevitably become even better with time, but the launch package won’t disappoint fans of either franchise involved. Especially Warhammer Fans are in for a treat, with new lore and new heroes providing a ray of hope for a better future after quite a few bleak years.
