Papa's Quiz is not the most dynamic trivia game available for the Nintendo Switch, but it may be the best at making sure family members of all ages are on an even playing field. It's perfect for a couple rounds when family movie night's done but you're not yet ready for bed.

Papa's Quiz is a game that tries different ways to spruce up the party game/quiz game genre, and it does a good job in most of its execution. It stumbles in the quiz question balance but excels in its creativity to personalize the experience for its players.

With a wonderfully silly presentation that won’t fail to make you laugh, Papa’s Quiz is a delightful take on the trivia genre. Winning comes secondary to having fun, and Papa’s Quiz is certainly all about having fun. It’s more entertaining the more players you have, and thanks to its intuitive mobile phone control system it’s easy to get your friends in on the act.

The simple presentation and accessible gameplay contribute to Papa's Quiz status as a solid family-friendly experience. Veteran quizzers who own or prefer the more adult-oriented offerings in the Jackbox games might not find as much to like about it, but there's no denying that Papa's Quiz is a great offering for the right crowd. Silly dances between rounds, the quiz master's accent, and the straightforward style ensure that I'll be regularly pulling this one out after family dinners and other all-ages gatherings.

Papa’s Quiz aims to be a quirky and fun trivia game, but fails to set the right tone. While it has some good ideas like player customisation and letting up to 8 people join in, the slow pace and frankly awful voice acting only succeeded in making it feel awkward.

What’s the optimal number of players? I suspect any number of players works well (except for playing solo), which makes Papa’s Quiz a versatile game in this respect. Playing alone is pretty lacklustre. In these Covid times, it’s harder to meet friends in person for a gaming session. We’ve been playing party games online, so I’m happy to have found us a new title. Unfortunately, I don’t find Papa’s Quiz as engaging as some of the better titles from Jackbox Games. For comparison, Trivia Murder Party is funnier, more varied, and more interesting; though, on the downside, its trivia questions are more obscure. Still, Papa’s Quiz is a pleasant, relaxing way to spend time with friends—for a game or two. Do consider this title if you’re looking for a casual party game. It’s a decent one to play with non-gamers, as it’s uncomplicated, has simple controls, and is good for a 15- to 20-minute session.

It’s a shame we didn’t have this a year ago in lockdown for some family fun. In that regard it’s missed the sweet spot. But overall you’ll find in Papa’s Quiz a fun little quiz game that does exactly what it says on the tin.

A competent, accessible, family friendly yet unusually dry quiz game, Papa’s Quiz offers up a few hours of party fun before the whole thing becomes stale. It won’t be challenging Jackbox for the party game crown but would fit right into a playlist of party games with friends and relatives.
