Critic Reviews for Trophy

While I’m down on this game a lot, I still think it was a decent outing. It’s a difficult game both by design and by the issues I had with it. Still, it tries to capture that old 8-bit feel and does a decent job with it. Even up to the slowdown when multiple things are happening on screen. (Is that a feature or performance issue? I couldn’t tell you) Regardless, I never disliked my time with Trophy, but I can most certainly say it could have been better with some other features and better controls thrown in.

If you are a fan of retro NES games with a challenge and a Mega Man type feel, this is going to be a title you won't want to miss. Minus a couple of boss design choices and a buggy achievement system, this is a quality title.

Trophy is a competent and enjoyable action-platformer that looks and feels like Mega Man, even if it falters in a few specific areas and doesn't quite live up to that comparison. The game does enough to make it worth recommending to fans of 8-bit classics of yore, provided you can look past some of its poor level design and cheap deaths. At the end of the day, I'd award it a trophy somewhere in between participation and podium.

There’s no question this feels convincingly like an 8-bit-era release, for better or for worse depending on tastes

If you are a fan of 8-bit games, especially early Mega Man, I would highly recommend Trophy, as it’s an enjoyable trip down nostalgia lane.
