Critic Reviews for The Last Federation
The Last Federation is a new kind of space game, but its strategy can't keep up with its strong tactics.
The Last Federation's flavor text and tooltips are very entertaining, and you can tell the writers are very much in love with the world they've created. It's got a lot of heart, and a lot of good ideas, but fails to execute completely on any of them. It's a shame because, in its current state, The Last Federation is not a game I could recommend to anyone.
Aside from the major investment of time and learning curve involved with the game, there is a core of good gameplay to it. It just happens to take a very long time to dig out of the mire. I can easily foresee there being a number devoted fans to the game, but I'm not sure The Last Federation will be a widespread hit due to the investment required.
I'm pleased to be able to give this neat little indie title a whole-hearted recommendation. It's a cute experience with a great deal of personality which can be played and enjoyed several times over. For fans of space-faring simulation games, it's more or less a must.
The Last Federation is like a miniature jewel, a game that seems easy to understand and play at first and, as the player engages with it more, reveals deeper nuances and more interesting mechanics to explore and exploit.
The Last Federation lets us become the shadowy puppet master behind a simulated galaxy, which we can unify or destroy at our whim. Whether applying political pressure from behind the scenes or blasting pirate fleets with energy cannon fire, this recklessly innovative indie gem has the polish, fun factor and sticking power to match its big ambitions.
