Critic Reviews for Splice
Splice is a well-conceptualized puzzle game, but it's not as well-executed as it ought to be. Its minimalistic sensibilities end up leaving some important rules unexplained, and they don't quite gel with the type of game Cipher Prime has created.
Be warned, you can find the same game on other platforms for a vastly cheaper price. The same experience moves on mobile for $2.99 and on Steam for $9.99.
While it may have been released a couple of years ago now, the newest version of Splice looks and feels like it belongs on the PS4. Its minimalistic looks belie a real head scratching experience, which will push your brain to its absolute limits. It can be a little tricky to get into – and even then, it probably won't be for everyone – but give it a chance, and you'll find a delightfully challenging experience. Plus, if the game stresses you out too much, you can just sit back and listen to the wonderfully calming soundtrack.
Splice is a game that will cause you great amounts of stress, but also rewards you with a sense of accomplishment.
While a wonderful game, sadly Splice may not actually get the chance to prove itself to anyone outside of its niche audience due to the high initial investment of trying to figure out exactly what to do, why, and what results it leads to. With that said, for its intended fan base, and to those who will like it and make it past the initial barrier of figuring the game out, Splice will be a fantastic, creative and brain-teasing experience that is well worth the time and money.
Splice is a truly unique puzzler that will have you hooked from start to finish.
