Critic Reviews for Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor: Martyr - Ultimate Edition
The real appeal of Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr Ultimate Edition is the faithfulness to the universe and attention to detail.
Inquisitor Martyr is a fun action RPG that I think fans of the genre will enjoy. The moment-to-moment combat is fine and serviceable, but the true meat of the game is in the builds and skill trees. So much so that it can be a little daunting to the player. If you are looking for something to hold you over until Diablo 4, you have something here to sink your teeth into, and if you’re a Warhammer 40k fan, it makes the package even better.
Is Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Ultimate Edition the best action RPG that isn't about the devil guy everyone knows about? No. Is this a groundbreaking ARPG? Also no. Is it great for those who are super into the Warhammer lifestyle? Probably. A few gameplay elements felt like frustrations instead of straight-up turn-offs. Text that is hard to read, combat feels less action-packed, and the cover mechanics confused me. But there are plenty of bright spots for people who like ARPGs to enjoy. The way the missions work, you could play this indefinitely if you don't get bored of the repetitive action that most ARPGs tend to provide. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Ultimate Edition isn't a ground-breaking formula shift to ARPGs. Instead, it's a well-made ARPG that makes you feel like you're playing in the world of Warhammer 40,000.
This is a competent, satisfying and, while admittedly not ground-breaking, a very comprehensive package that will keep ARPG gamers and Warhammer fans happy for a long time – especially with some fellow Inquisitors to play with in co-op. Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor: Martyr – Ultimate Edition is a game I’d happily recommend to anyone into fans of both of those things.
Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor: Martyr is a mixed bag as a looter shooter with some unique takes on missions and narrative progression. It does suffer from repetition and its grindy nature, however, and despite this being a ‘next-gen’ upgrade, the game sadly still struggles with performance and frame rate problems that plagued it on last gen.
