Critic Reviews for Art Academy: Home Studio

I genuinely feel that, while it's not a perfect representation of drawing/painting, Art Academy: Atelier does an excellent job of teaching you the process of creating a piece of art. I believe that having followed the tutorials I could pick up a pastel or pencil in real life, and use them just as effectively, utilising skills I've learnt from a piece of software. While it may not be the most thrill-inducing package, Art Academy: Atelier is a relaxed and deeply enjoyable way of improving your artistic ability and creating artwork on your Wii U.

Serving as an excellent teaching tool for aspiring artists, Art Academy: Home Studio takes the franchise to new heights with well designed lessons that aim to make players the next Vincent van Gogh.

Art Academy: Home Studio has its minor flaws, but thankfully this game has enough great qualities that help brush some of those issues over.

Just keep in mind; you'll need patience and focus to make the most of the lessons, so it won't interest anyone looking for something on the Splatoon side of fine art. Overall though, we reckon this is the best Art Academy title yet, and it simply wouldn't be possible on any other home console. Now if you'll excuse us, we're off to try on some berets...

Granted, the game isn't perfect. Pinpoint accuracy can be a problem when trying to do intricate work with the stylus and touchpad. You also don't have the scope and breadth of features like you would with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, which honestly should be expected. For aspiring artists or weekend creative warriors who own a Wii U, however, Art Academy: Home Studio is an inexpensive and fun way to dabble into art of your own. Just be careful that it doesn't make you want to wear tight pants, striped shirts and a beret, um-kay?

Even if art isn't your bag (it sure isn't mine), Art Academy: Home Studio is worth checking out. The abundance of options available at your fingertips is very cool, and the ability to share couldn't be easier, save for direct posting to social networks – but we'll make do with what we have. If you're a budding artist or even a kid who just wants to play around with different paints (without messing up the house, mind you), this is one Academy worth enlisting in.
