As hard as it is to believe, it has been over a decade since the last traditional Mario 2D platformer that isn’t a re-release. Clearly, Nintendo has been biding their time as they have now given us one of the greatest entries in the series to date with Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Outside of the lackluster boss battles, everything else in this game is superb and truly exemplifies what a great Mario game should be. While some people may be awaiting a follow-up to Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Wonder rejuvenates the 2D side of the series with a game that is perfect for people of all ages and should not be overlooked in the twilight years of the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is gleaming with joy from every corner, with bright colors and expressive animations. The innovation and creativity seen in each level transcends what held back previous 2D entries, marking a new era of 2D Mario. While there's nothing here that transcends the platforming genre, Wonder is a fantastic title that any Nintendo Switch owner should grab.
Nintendo rather threw the kitchen sink (full of thousands of Post-it notes) at Super Mario Bros. Wonder, so it's unsurprising that not every element is as successful as the game's – and the genre's – best. But when you think about it, it's remarkable that, after nearly four decades, there are still new ideas left to try. The real wonder is how good Mario's latest 2-D romp turned out.
Super Mario Bros Wonder is a celebration of the iconic plumber’s journey, a testament to the enduring magic of the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s a game that pays tribute to the past while embracing the future. Mario is back, and it’s clear that he never really left.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder combines the style of the series' 2D titles and mixes it with the creativity and ambition of 3D games. The result of this recipe could not be different: the adventure is complete fun from beginning to end. Just as Super Mario World impacted generations, Wonder has the potential to be viewed decades from now with the same appreciation.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is an incredible return to form to the 2D format, having coupled the usual great platforming gameplay with some of the most creative ideas in the genre in years, although the badge system was a bit undercooked it's still a step in the right direction.

It's all in the name: Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a wonderful experience, filled with the unexpected yet entirely within the player's control.
Nintendo turns its longest-running series upside down with an installment filled to the brim with happy ideas and moments of understated luxury, a celebration of the "vital importance" of level design.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder isn’t a masterpiece by any means. Like other Mario games, it has its faults that shouldn’t be ignored by anyone. Yet, after playing through the title and experiencing many of its offerings, it wouldn’t be farfetched for someone to call this their favorite Mario game of all time. It contains a strong level of polish and creativity that’s been missing from his 2D quests for a long time. If you’re on the fence about buying this game, “wonder” no more, because it’s likely to make you a happy customer.
For a franchise that’s been around for nearly 40 years, Super Mario Bros. still has a number of new tricks up its sleeve, and even after beating every single level, I keep finding new pockets of joy and excitement at every turn. I don’t know precisely where I’d rank Super Mario Bros. Wonder in comparison to the older titles, but I can say for sure it’s one of the best 2D platformers I’ve played in a long time, and without a doubt a worthy contender for the top five of 2D Mario games. It convinced me there’s still so much more Nintendo can accomplish with its greatest mascot.
Super Mario Wonder successfully elevated the already high standard of the side-scrolling platformer even further. The stage transformations brought by the Wonder Flowers are unpredictable, and consistently bring a smile to the player's face.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is pure, unadulterated fun and one of the best games on Nintendo Switch - a true wonder of game design that lives up to its name.
Those are minor missteps, though, in an otherwise fantastic release. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is easily the most interesting a 2D Mario title has been since the 90s, and any fan of platformers absolutely needs to play this game. The Switch has had a fantastic year for first-party releases, but Super Mario Bros. Wonder stands alongside the very best of them.
All in all, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is indeed a great game, as it gets its name. Nintendo has shown us how different the 2D Mario game can be, which it has shown many times. With the new features added, the Wonder hustle and bustle, and the smooth co-op system, it has been created that both young and old players will enjoy. Every game lover should definitely experience this unique adventure.

It is a game that will stand as a shining mark in the gaming industry of what is possible.
