Dungeonoid 2 Awakening is a good idea done wrong. Fusing the arcade gameplay of Arkanoid with D&D style, fantasy elements had lots of potential, but the way the whole thing has been executed offers a repetitive experience with not much meat on its bones, and can even get annoying when it comes to "reading" the screen, which can lead to lots of unfair deaths.

I wanted to love Dungeonoid 2 Awakening but only ended up liking it with its haphazard mix of brick-breaking and arcade-like progression.

Dungeonoid 2 Awakening is a game that will keep you hooked for hours, as you try to beat all the dungeons and unlock all the achievements. The game has a retro pixel art style that is colorful and charming, and a catchy soundtrack that fits the mood of the game. The game also has a simple and intuitive control scheme, as you only need to move your platform left or right with the arrow keys or the mouse. The game is easy to pick up and play, but hard to master and put down. If you are looking for a game that blends dungeon crawling and brick-breaking in a creative and enjoyable way, then you should definitely check out Dungeonoid 2 Awakening.

Block Breaking games are one of those tried true genres that just immediately make my neurons activate. I’m always down to play them. I’m inclined to try the original Dungeonoid out now too. Which despite this being a sequel to, is a bit of a different style, which I dig.

Dungeonoid 2 Awakening is a decent arcade game, but it doesn’t meet its full potential. The ball and paddle gameplay is just as addictive as it ever was in the arcade. Making the game a scrolling adventure gives the game its own unique take on the design, but adding a time limit and aggressive spawning of power downs really detached me from the gameplay, severely reducing the pull to continue on. Maybe this could be tweaked with patches. As it stands, I only recommend Dungeonoid 2 Awakening to the most dedicated arcade fans.
