Critic Reviews for Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution
Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a solid new entry in the long-running franchise that excels in some ways and falls short in others. The combat is fast-paced, but does get draining due to the repetitious dungeon structure and lack of auto-battle as a feature. Fortunately, the strong voice acting serves as a motivator to keep going as does seeing where the amusing story will go. Visually, it retains the core look of the PS Vita-rooted series, just with a cleaner look across the board when compared to the older portable hardware. Thankfully, the framerate doesn't falter on the PS5 and the game as a whole is a solid recommendation to those who enjoy the franchise already -- and is a solid starting point for those looking to get into it since the gameplay is in-line with other entries, just more fine-tuned.
Neptunia Game Maker (R)evolution is another stinker in a long line of disappointing Neptunia series entries. I love these characters and their world, but this is a flat action-RPG with a barebones management game bolted onto it that do not do them right by any means.
Neptunia GameMaker R:Evolution is a huge upgrade to Sisters vs Sisters and adds some more new characters to Gamindustri.
It has its issues and doesn't bring a lot of new things to the table, but it's a fun, familiar stepping stone to the next Neptunia game, and that's all fans really want.
Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a disappointing spin-off and wouldn't recommend it even to the biggest fans of the main series. The gameplay simply doesn't have a proper level of quality for players to have a good time with the title.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is an admirable effort to find a way of introducing more characters and an all-new plot-line, while also in some ways going back to the fundamentals in terms of storytelling and structure. I do wish the Idea Factory people would give up on this action combat system when the turn-based approach was less obviously affected by the budget, but the usual gorgeous fanservice art and antics of the characters kept me smiling throughout.
There is no doubt that that the mostly strong level design, amusing character interactions and intriguing story make Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution a solid entry on Nintendo Switch, especially when having both new and returning music that help with the nostalgic feel for returning fans. It is a shame that there are some unbalanced areas in both design and gameplay that could impact enjoyment for some less skilled players, as overall it is a captivating addition to the well-known and beloved Neptunia series.
Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a lovely game with a fun-filled story. It may have many recycled elements and stages from the previous game but more often than not, it's still a treat to play. 💽
