Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a solid new entry in the long-running franchise that excels in some ways and falls short in others. The combat is fast-paced, but does get draining due to the repetitious dungeon structure and lack of auto-battle as a feature. Fortunately, the strong voice acting serves as a motivator to keep going as does seeing where the amusing story will go. Visually, it retains the core look of the PS Vita-rooted series, just with a cleaner look across the board when compared to the older portable hardware. Thankfully, the framerate doesn't falter on the PS5 and the game as a whole is a solid recommendation to those who enjoy the franchise already -- and is a solid starting point for those looking to get into it since the gameplay is in-line with other entries, just more fine-tuned.

Neptunia Game Maker (R)evolution is another stinker in a long line of disappointing Neptunia series entries. I love these characters and their world, but this is a flat action-RPG with a barebones management game bolted onto it that do not do them right by any means.

Neptunia GameMaker R:Evolution is a huge upgrade to Sisters vs Sisters and adds some more new characters to Gamindustri.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a disappointing spin-off and wouldn't recommend it even to the biggest fans of the main series. The gameplay simply doesn't have a proper level of quality for players to have a good time with the title.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is an admirable effort to find a way of introducing more characters and an all-new plot-line, while also in some ways going back to the fundamentals in terms of storytelling and structure. I do wish the Idea Factory people would give up on this action combat system when the turn-based approach was less obviously affected by the budget, but the usual gorgeous fanservice art and antics of the characters kept me smiling throughout.

It has its issues and doesn't bring a lot of new things to the table, but it's a fun, familiar stepping stone to the next Neptunia game, and that's all fans really want.

There is no doubt that that the mostly strong level design, amusing character interactions and intriguing story make Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution a solid entry on Nintendo Switch, especially when having both new and returning music that help with the nostalgic feel for returning fans. It is a shame that there are some unbalanced areas in both design and gameplay that could impact enjoyment for some less skilled players, as overall it is a captivating addition to the well-known and beloved Neptunia series.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution’s poor framerate, terrible gameplay, and story with no stakes combine together to make for a thoroughly unpleasant RPG. While the game’s entire goal is to make better and better games, the actual Neptunia series seems to have instead gone on a steep downward decline.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a lovely game with a fun-filled story. It may have many recycled elements and stages from the previous game but more often than not, it's still a treat to play. 💽

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution continues to maintain the characteristics that make Compile Heart's classic series so special, even though it hasn't yet reached the level of technical polish to achieve the excellence that the franchise deserves.

Overall, I had a great time with Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution. The story was great, I love the new characters, and even if the combat hasn’t changed from the last game, it’s still a lot of fun. I spent about 30 hours with this one and completed the main story. You could invest a lot more time in this if you wanted to do both of the towers and all of the fights in the battle arena, so I feel like it is well worth the $49.99 price tag. I do think it’s a bummer the swimsuits are once again locked to the Special Edition release at $69.99, they should allow you to purchase these separately and I hope they do at some point. Still, Neptunia fans will find a lot to love here, and this is also a good jumping in point for new fans on the Xbox as well.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is entertaining and has a large number of things to do, but at the same time, it feels too easy and has some visual hiccups. Who knew making a game could be so demanding!

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a sharp, well-written entry in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. The plot is genuinely funny and if it was presented as a visual novel over a dungeon-crawling RPG, it would undoubtedly be one of my favourite games of 2024. Sadly, the boring dungeons and lacklustre combat killed any momentum that the story tried to build. The limited enemy pool and the lack of any challenge will put off any RPG fan, possibly even those who consider themselves Nep-Nep aficionados. Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a game that tells people that it’s perhaps time for Compile Heart to slow down on the quantity of games and focus on the quality of the end product.

Neptunia – Game Maker R:Evolution is a drill set you keep jotting down even though you understand it because the teacher thinks you’re stupid and need to study harder. Now you haven’t learned anything new and you hate math, and I’m walking away from this game before I really start to dislike Neptune.

Despite the presence of various charismatic characters and the series' usual humor, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution doesn't stand out as a memorable action RPG due to a monotonous and extremely unbalanced combat system. For the hardcore fans of the franchise, there are many familiar aspects that may offer some fun; however, for those looking for a solid experience in the genre, there are many options easier to recommend.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a game that offers a new twist on the Neptunia games with a story of game development and dungeon crawling, It definitely doesn't perform as well as you would like and it does take some shine off of what I would consider the best in the Neptunia series, I found the previous games fun but kind of the same story and progress wise, This is the first time it felt and played differently, the story and game development aspect really keep you engaged.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution’s character interactions and comedy make it worth playing. However, it’s let down by its gameplay, which is occasionally good, often mediocre, and sometimes actively bad. I say this as a long-time fan of Neptunia, which might be the only group that this title appeals to.
