Musashi vs. Cthulhu is as basic as an action game can be; combat is reduced entirely to aiming and timing your sword strikes. This makes it easy to get into and fun to play, but that fun likely won't hold for those who aren't interested in score-chasing or leaderboards.

Fast and objective, Musashi vs Cthulhu doesn't bring any contextualization that justifies the meeting of these two worlds. But it compensates for its narrative disinterest with an addictive, sharp and very precise gameplay in search of that extra point in the world rankings or the personal satisfaction of having gone a little further.

Musashi vs. Cthulhu is a challenging and fun action game. The controls are very responsive, and the game provides leaderboards to showcase your skills. If played in short bursts, it can offer a few enjoyable hours, but keep in mind that it doesn't have much depth.

Musashi vs Cthulhu would do well from having something more to it – there’s apparently talk of a story mode or multiple characters – but it does okay for what it professes to be. A simple, repetitive, and ultimately points-driven game of fast fingers and split-second decisions. I feel like it’s not a bad pickup to make, but know what you’re getting, and be ready to put it down and probably forget about it the second you finish. There’s nothing wrong with that, but this is definitely one game where the excitement of monster slaying wears off in a flash of steel.
