G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra Reviews
While it is not breaking the mould or bringing groundbreaking innovations to the genre, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra serves a particular audience and does it admirably. There is always a bunch of Cobra henchmen waiting to be trounced, and the license is put to work in all the best ways. If the developers can find a way to freshen things up in the various stages more and hasten their plans for console ports, then it will certainly help make the game more comparable to contemporaries which are more fleshed out.
If you're a fan of G.I. Joe and enjoy street fighting games from the arcades and 8- and 16-bit consoles, and enjoy some casual fun — especially in local co-op with friends — Wrath of Cobra might be worth checking out. However, if you're hoping for a beat 'em up with more innovation, polish, and depth, you might want to wait for a sale.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is a trip down memory lane for for 80s G.I. Joe fans with familiar characters and locations in a beat-em-up style game. You can choose from 4 G.I. Joe heroes each with their own abilities as you fight through levels full of Cobra bad guys. The game captures the heart of the franchise with bright graphics and music but the gameplay can get repetitive and some combat mechanics are frustrating. Still, Wrath of Cobra is a fun and budget friendly ride for G.I. Joe fans.
G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is a game that lives off nostalgia and simplicity. For fans of the franchise and classic beat 'em ups, it's a must-play that brings back the glory days of the past. However, for those seeking a deeper or more innovative experience, the game may not meet expectations. It remains a fun title, perfect for evenings with friends and for those who want to relive the adrenaline of '80s arcades.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra, while quite nice, doesn't manage to hold its own against the more balanced and mature games in its industry.

I’d say G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra can be fun, provided you can get some friends together on the couch to play through the game with you. If not, as a single-player experience, there’s far better options on the market nowadays.
Ultimately, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra borrows heavily from the arcade beat ’em up playbook, but almost to its detriment. Fans of the franchise will likely enjoy some moments of nostalgic fun, especially in co-op mode, but the game suffers from overly long levels, repetitive combat, and a lackluster story. I found myself wanting to like it more than I did, but it just didn’t have enough spark to keep me hooked. If you have a buddy to join in for co-op, it can elevate the experience slightly, but as a solo adventure, it’s a bit of a slog. There was so much potential here for a great nostalgia trip, but in the end, Wrath of Cobra is just another run-of-the-mill beat ’em up.
Even if it doesn’t feel right as a timed PC exclusive, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is certainly one of the most impressive licensed titles to be released in a while. A fast-paced and responsive beat ’em up oozing charm and replayability, it will not only please people who grew up watching the cartoon, but anyone willing to spend an hour or two playing a traditional, but highly competent multiplayer brawler. I just hope the developers and publisher announce a handful of console ports soon enough.
