Ghost Town Reviews
From its sharp writing and expertly crafted puzzles to its deeply atmospheric setting and heartfelt narrative, Ghost Town is more than just a supernatural detective story. It strikes a perfect balance between gameplay and storytelling, giving you agency in a world that feels lived-in, mysterious, and, of course, full of ghosts (can’t forget those). Yes, it’s a bit linear and a little short, but those end up standing out as some of its strengths – it knows exactly when to end, and it leaves just enough room for a sequel without feeling incomplete. Few virtual reality games manage to stick the landing quite this well, and Ghost Town stands tall as a memorable and meaningful experience that lingers well beyond the closing credits.
Ghost Town is a landmark achievement in VR game design. It demonstrates a deep understanding of what makes VR special as a medium while delivering a compelling narrative and satisfying and extremely creative gameplay. It's not just one of the best VR games of the year – it's one of the best VR games period, setting a new standard for what's possible in the medium.
After playing through almost the entire game in a single sitting, unable to stop myself, I can confidently say that Ghost Town is one of the finest puzzle adventures in the VR scene. It comfortably takes its place alongside classics of the genre such as Myst, Riven, and the excellent Red Matter. The game manages to carve out a distinctive audience, thanks to a strong narrative and a unique gameplay style. It succeeds in being engaging without ever becoming overly complex or inaccessible. In essence, Fireproof Games accomplishes its core objective: to provide an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Over the course of its six to seven hours of playtime, it offers one of those rare titles that captivates you from the very beginning and leaves you wishing it would never end.
