After spending sufficient time with the game, I’m fond of Cooking Companions, even if I don’t feel it reached its fullest potential. It’s a dark, unsettling VN with uncomfortable subject matter, told skillfully and subtly. While the Switch version of the game is occasionally a bit laggy and some functionality doesn’t seem to work properly, I’d still recommend fans of dark stories check the game out, even if it’s on a different console.

Deer Dream Studios has come up with a very creepy and interesting visual-novel. Those of you who played Doki Doki Literature Club! will surely find the similarities quickly. We are facing a story where the main premise is to read, but what happens is so interesting, with so many mysteries that we will not be able to stop passing lines of dialogue.

If you’re up for a disturbingly enjoyable tale for an evening or two, do yourself a favour; pick up Cooking Companions with as little prior knowledge as possible and just revel in the places it takes us. Just don’t let the kids watch.
