Critic Reviews for REAL BOUT FATAL FURY 2: THE NEWCOMERS
Overall, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers is a strong re-release, offering enough gameplay depth and netcode refinement to satisfy fighting game enthusiasts. With practice and CPU modes included, it also provides a welcoming entry point for true "newcomers." The only real drawback is the price-£16.75 is on the higher side for a re-release-but hopefully that won't discourage players from giving this classic another shot.
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers’ gathering of wolves never looked better than with Code Mystics’ new Steam release. While light on options, there's no better way to get serious than with this solid SNK fighter.
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 was largely overlooked and forgotten at the time of its release, but over time it has come to be recognized by fighting game fans as a tragically underrated masterpiece and a highly polished versus tool. This ‘NEOGEO Premium Selection’ version includes modern features such as gallery viewing, training mode, and online play. While there are some minor drawbacks, the package offers good value for its price and provides a stable competitive environment, making it highly satisfying. Especially now, with character strategies fully documented, anyone can quickly appreciate the well-balanced gameplay. It’s a definitive edition that can be confidently recommended to fans.

It features quality-of-life improvements like a training mode and netcode rollback. However, it needs a little more love for the game's story. Extra content like the gallery is extremely limited and doesn't have a mode to listen to the soundtrack separately. It's worth noting the low price, which makes it an excellent option for one of the best games from the end of SNK's golden age.

Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers is a good return to a competent 2D fighting game that deserves to be available in more systems. Its main weakness, however, is that it doesn't offer a rich pack of modes to make the most out of the gameplay. Despite that, the online mode, Practice, gallery and rich settings are fair motivations to get this version.
