The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - Second Chapter Reviews
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC is not just a title that writers looking to pad their word count would love. There is an incredible amount of depth packed into this release. With so much to see and do, so much to learn, so much to experience, this classic JRPG is worth the effort to play. Sure, the translation is wonky and there are some moments that stick out as distasteful to many. Sure, the battle elements drag out in places.
If you're not among that number and you crave a bit more flash and innovation in your JRPG, then you might understandably skip this, even if it means missing out on an intriguing tale.
It may be surprising that a PSP title is a potential Game of the Year contender in 2015, but we all know life is strange. Trails in the Sky SC is an excellent JRPG that has managed to age incredibly well since its Japanese release. Although you'll end up lost more often than you would like to, it's absolutely worth taking a trip into the Liberl Kingdom.
If you would have told me there was a new PSP game coming out in 2015 that I had to play, I would have called you crazy. But here we are. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter is a title that you shouldn't miss. Vita, PSP, Playstation TV, and PC provide four different ways you can play this game, so there's no excuse to let it pass you by.
If you're a fan of the series (or just of JRPGs in general), then The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky SC will offer you an engaging narrative as well as enough complex and challenging battles to tide you over till Christmas.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky concludes the story and character arcs which began in the first chapter in an incredibly satisfying way. While it reuses a bit too much to my liking, the combat is much more engaging, with mechanics being polished and enemies being tougher. It can be a bit too tough in some regards, with ranged characters being almost useless, but it reaches higher highs than the first chapter overall while feeling like a more uneven experience.
If you've played Trails FC, you need to play Trails SC, period.
This localized release has been an incredible labour of love, but it feels like it was all worthwhile - this is a modern classic in waiting.
Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter is a perfect sequel to the first entry. It offers some subtle improvements, while also keeping the focus on what Legends of Heroes does best; that narrative. It's traditional, but classy, and well worth the time it takes to play through it all.
