Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Reviews
Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a wonderful update to a great game, pushing it into excellent territory. If you're a fan of JRPGs, do yourself a favor and play this. And probably the others, too. You know, when you have a few hundred hours to spare.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is a very specific type of RPG that can be overwhelming in large parts, but rewards in spades if able to quickly adapt to its sweeping approach and quest-based structure. Locking down story missions to character levels can drastically halt momentum and be an issue for those looking to get caught up in the story, but its strengths lie in the exploration-based format across a beautiful world. It is one enhanced by resolution and framerate boosts on the TV, but the massive hit to handheld play with disturbingly bad visual upscaling is a cause for concern that is hoped can be addressed.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Definitive Edition is an enormous, colourful and occasionally bewildering RPG that takes a little while to reveal why people have become so attached to it. I still think it has a fairly high barrier to entry. If you’re completely new to Xenoblade, I wouldn’t necessarily point you towards this as the easiest introduction to the series. The first Xenoblade Chronicles remains, in my view, a more straightforward place to start. But if you can get through those many early hours and allow the various systems to gradually settle into your brain, there’s a lot to enjoy here. The combat becomes more satisfying. The world opens up. The Blade system starts to make sense. Builds become more interesting. The story gathers momentum. And eventually you stop thinking about all the terminology and simply start playing the game. Torna – The Golden Country was a particularly pleasant surprise for me, too. Its more focused story and refined combat made it easier to appreciate, and I think it complements the main game extremely well. Ultimately, I still don’t love Xenoblade Chronicles 2 quite as much as some of the other Xenoblade adventures I’ve played. But my second journey through Alrest has certainly been a much happier one. It turns out I hadn’t completely fallen out with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 after all. I just needed a few more years, a better understanding of the series, and apparently a Nintendo Switch 2.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers the definitive way to experience one of the first truly great JRPGs of the Nintendo Switch. This game is just as immersive and captivating as it was nine years ago, but with a few additional perks and tweaks to really bring it to life now that it isn't running on a system being completely pushed to its limit. While its main plot and combat systems are more adequate than outstanding and can put off at least a few players expecting more from them, its lovable array of characters, awe-inspiring and imaginative landscapes, unique world, and gorgeous soundtrack makes it one of the most memorable RPGs of the 2010s. Even if it’s in a “better than the sum of its parts” way. There’s so much to do and so much to see in the world of Alrest, and a lot of it is still pretty great.
Xenoblade Chronicles on Nintendo Switch 2 can finally shine in HD. It's not a perfect upgrade, but it works in the most important part of the experience; seeing the beautiful world without the fog caused by the 520p resolution of the Nintendo Switch 1 Edition.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition definitely provides value for money. The main story alone will take around 70 hours to complete, but there’s easily over 100 hours of gameplay on offer here for those players that want to spend more time completing the many side quests, building character affinities and of course completing the new Future Connected epilogue.
Xenoblade Chronicles HD Switch 2 Edition is the best way to play a beloved JRPG, with unique combat and a wonderful new way to travel.
Xenoblade Chronicles continues to run incredibly well on the Nintendo Switch 2. In terms of content, the journey of the hero Shulk remains a video game milestone that every JRPG fan should experience at least once. However, anyone who has already invested many hours in the game will find the new additions only moderately satisfying, as the new Nopon Grand Prix does not really offer a meaningful way to extend playtime.

The 60fps upgrade makes a real difference, especially in Skell combat. The main story lacks the emotional pull of other Xenoblade titles, and the higher resolution exposes its age as much as it flatters it. But Mira itself remains one of the most impressive worlds Nintendo has ever published, and this is the version worth owning.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on Switch 2 doesn’t reinvent the experience, but it refines it where it needed it most. The jump to 60fps transforms the flow of combat and exploration, making the ambitious world of Mira feel more stable and enjoyable than ever. It remains a demanding and uncompromising JRPG, but for those who connect with its science-fiction setting and systemic freedom, this is without a doubt the best way to experience it today.
