This is a short expansion, without major innovations and clearly aimed at those already invested in the game. In the end, it works as a nice addition, especially for SEGA fans, but far from being essential content.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance - SEGA Villains is a great celebration of SEGA’s legacy and its most iconic franchises, bringing three of the fans most beloved villains into brand-new stages with incredible visuals and challenges that test even the most skilled players.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – SEGA Villains Stage DLC features memorable battles against well-designed and challenging bosses, which clearly stand out within the experience. On the other hand, the stages fall short, with linear progression, limited use of Musashi’s abilities, and a timid exploration of the thematic potential of the represented worlds. In the end, it’s an expansion that works better as a challenge-focused add-on rather than an essential addition. For those seeking intense confrontations, there are some strong moments here; however, players expecting variety and more creative exploration may come away feeling it was a missed opportunity.

After spending well over three hours with this DLC content, I loved my time with it. It reminded me why Art of Vengeance is one of 2025’s best games, and that quality continues with this lengthy DLC. For $10, this is a must-own for those longing for a real challenge.

The Sega Villains DLC is more than a boss rush; it's a lot of new content that pays homage to prior Sega games while maintaining Shinobi: Art of Vengeance's precise, fun gameplay. Joe Mousashi's comeback is unforgettable thanks to this DLC's graphics, music, combat, and level design. It encourages players to play one of 2025's best games again.

It's a good DLC, especially for its price (€9.99), but its difficulty spike might cause some players to drop their controllers. For those still hungry for a challenge, it's worth going for, even if the lack of side challenges might surprise some and the game strays even further from the original material.
