Critic Reviews for Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland

Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland may look cute, but it is deceptively challenging and tricky to navigate. It also doesn't wear out its welcome, with its levels being cleverly designed and its power-ups meaningful.

Hopefully others can have a good time with this beautiful looking, sweetly written title, because I’m sure Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland is going to be a banger in the right hands. And perhaps, someday, a console port will arrive and make my world a brighter place. But, at the current time, I’m afraid I have to wake up from this one and realize it was all just a dream. Little Nemo is not here for my enjoyment: it’s merely a fading illusion, and now I must face the real world, which, thankfully, is front and center for my eyes.

With the nostalgia of childhood dreams, Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland builds a visually excellent presentation with great attention to detail. Beyond its beautiful appearance, the nonlinear world and efficient map are great invitations to explore this Metroidvania adventure, which has heavier movements than I would like, but which, overall, offers a true delight both for those who are still in childhood and for those who remember it.

Little Nemo Guardians of Slumberland is a brilliant trip back to a dreamworld that feels both fresh and nostalgic. It hits that sweet spot between a chill platformer and a rewarding Metroidvania, even if the candy-loss mechanic makes me want to shout at the screen before coming back for more. It’s a lot of fun, the bosses are clever, and the whole package is wrapped in a fantastic art style. If you want a game that keeps you on your toes while looking adorable, this is a dream worth having.
