Biomechanical Toy is a unique and whimsical game that harkens back to the mid 1990’s and is a colorful romp through some intriguing landscapes to defeat the evil toys.
While this pretty fantastical take on an old-school run-n-gun gets points for originality, it can also be tough to follow in places and doesn’t perform all that well overall
If it came in a collection or was more distinct in a way that screamed must-play, I think I could recommend it a lot easier than the middle of the road experience it currently is.
With the Eurojank still clearly present, even in a 1995 release when the industry already matured towards 3D, I have to say Biomechanical Toy is probably more interesting from a video game anthropological perspective than it is to actually play. But for what it is and the price it sells for, it remains a solid run-and-gun. It could have been a great one if it had just been able to suppress its compulsive need to shove everything in your face instead of giving you a chance to admire its beautiful surroundings. All in all, a decent addition to the QUbyte Classic collection.
If you want an incredibly easy, fifteen-minute double Platinum trophy fueled by built-in cheats or a quick hit of pure 90s arcade nostalgia, it is worth a cheap look, but don’t expect to stay hooked for long.
