IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator turns the seemingly dry process of operating a massive dieselpunk artillery machine into a tense, absorbing and surprisingly thoughtful experience. Its demanding multi-step firing procedures, evolving mission structure, strong atmosphere and procedural objectives create a satisfying sense of mastery, while the subtle anti-war themes add more weight than expected. The lack of co-op feels like a missed opportunity, but as a focused single-player simulator it is one of the more distinctive indie releases of the year.

IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator is one of those experiences that's difficult to recommend to just anyone, but very easy to suggest to the right audience. If you enjoy simulators, systems games, machines, alternate history, dieselpunk, solving complex problems, and deliberately slow-paced experiences, you'll probably find something here that you'll enjoy.

Iron Nest: Heavy Turret Simulator clearly isn’t a game for everyone, but it ticks every single box for fans of artillery and this particular kind of simulation. Between a genuinely engaging story, an incredibly immersive atmosphere brought to life by countless little details — such as customizing the cat, tracking your shots, or collecting vinyl records — and gameplay that lets me interact with practically everything inside the turret, Iron Nest is a tremendous success. It’s an extremely niche game that fully embraces what it is and pushes its concept down to the smallest detail. Ultimately, Iron Nest: Heavy Turret Simulator feels like the game many fans of the genre have been dreaming of.
