Silver Pines is a cerebrally divine love letter to David Lynch and all the narrative trademarks he was known for, from the cult classic Twin Peaks to Blue Velvet and Lost Highway.

Silver Pines tries to mesh two very different genres, combining survival horror with 2D Metroidvania. This makes for a refreshingly paced approach to the formula, asking you to step into the shoes of a down-on-his-luck detective as he tries to figure out what happened in Silver Pines. The horror elements may not weigh very heavily on the experience, but it helps to build intrigue for the Metroidvania side of the game, making it very compelling to explore the map. Silver Pines makes a name for itself in spades.

Silver Pines has all the makings of a Lynchian classic by way of a Metroidvania. Though it has a handful of shortcomings, this welcome and fresh take makes the most of its ambition and Americana horror.

Silver Pines is one of those survival horror games that tries to deliver a unique, memorable, and highly engaging experience by applying interesting twists to the genre's rules and, of course, combining them with its Metroidvania design and exploration philosophy. From the gripping narrative, captivating world-building, and mysterious characters to a structured and cohesive approach in the mechanical dimensions of survival horror and its combination with Metroidvania environmental design philosophy, they all form a mechanism that will immerse you completely. The game's artistic approach contributes to the overall presentation, and the voice acting serves as a powerful complement to it. While some moments or dimensions of the experience feel shaky, ultimately Silver Pines is a solid survival horror experience that fans of the genre shouldn't overlook.

Silver Pines is a stunning debut for Wych Elm, being a game that combines the survival horror and Metroidvania genres to great effect. This is a game dripping with atmosphere that will quickly get its hooks in you and not let go. Only its clunky combat brings it down a little, but not enough to stop you from having a blast with it.
