I would have loved more RTS-style missions in Warcraft 3 Reforged's Forsaken Kingdom campaign expansion, but the deeper RPG mechanics and a story that fits right into the Warcraft 3 era seamlessly kept me hooked to the end.

Forsaken Kingdom is a fun, surprising, and well-crafted addition to WarCraft III that simply wasn’t quite finished on release, and still isn’t at the time of writing.

After 24 years of playing Warcraft III, what I loved most about Forsaken Kingdom was that it gave me a reason to return to this world and discover things I had never seen before. What disappointed me most, however, was that even after all these years and two attempts to modernize the game’s visuals, the first thing I still do when I want to play a serious match of Warcraft III is switch the graphics back to Classic. That says a lot about how unsuccessful Blizzard’s second attempt at remaking the game’s visuals has been. Forsaken Kingdom proves that Warcraft III still has room to grow. If you’re a fan of the Warcraft universe, it’s definitely worth experiencing.

Forsaken Kingdom is an interesting addition to Warcraft III that features a good campaign that will appeal to a wide net of players and doesn’t involve many intricate real-time strategy missions. The prologue campaign is accessible (though difficult for newcomers). The Forsaken Kingdom campaign starts off slow but gets its pacing together along the way.

Forsaken Kingdom marks the return of Warcraft III with a new campaign that effectively leverages the immense weight of its universe and fills a significant gap between The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft. Its focus on exploration, hero progression, and an RPG-like structure doesn't always work perfectly, yet it offers a distinct experience with plenty of personality. It may not be the Warcraft III we expected after all these years, but it is hard not to enjoy returning to Lordaeron and accompanying the first Forsaken. A truly special comeback for fans of the saga like us.

All in all, Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom has been a particularly pleasant surprise. Getting to enjoy this universe again so many years later, with a new story, is something I didn’t expect. Maybe my fondness for the game is influencing my perception, but it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed it this much. After more than twenty years, Warcraft III still has stories to tell, and for someone who discovered video games thanks to it, being able to experience them is something very special.
