Even though I generally dig Outer Rim, I think it's a fairly tough sell as a standalone add-on given the current pricing. If you're way into the game, specifically the smaller modes, it has some of the better content in all of Battlefront. But otherwise, I'd stick with the free updates for now and wait to see how the three other packs in the season pass play out before committing to the full bundle.

It's a good start to the DLC schedule, but might not be enough just yet to get people to commit to the full Season Pass. The maps are well designed with lots of fan service and the new mode is a very welcome addition.

Outer Rim is a well conceived expansion: the quality of the maps is just as high as the ones in the base game, but the heroes are way too featureless to enthuse the gamers. Extraction has a relentless rhythm of gunfight in a less dispersive environment. Recommended to those players that spent many hours on Battlefront, as it will extend the game experience.

The Outer Rim is a fun DLC for Star Wars Battlefront that tweaks the gameplay, throws in new characters and also weapons for players to explore. The new maps are quite detailed and although there are no new worlds, it still makes for some exciting gameplay as you shoot your way through the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: Battlefront's first foray into DLC proves to be a mixed bag with uninspiring heroes and a couple of dud maps failing to match the caliber of the new Extraction game mode and Jabba's Palace level.

When Star Wars Battlefront first launched it was criticised for lacking maps. DICE has done a great deal to address this in free updates (to date, three new large scale maps and one small), putting rest to any notion that these paid expansions are a cynical cash-in. It may not be exactly what people want – that's sure to come later – but the Outer Rim DLC offers a good package for fans of a game once criticised for not having longevity, but which on this evidence has a bright and long future.
