As a lower-key alternative to the high-octane flying games in the VR space, How We Soar has found its niche, and it'll serve those players well. It strikes a good balance between letting you unwind and also making sure you're adequately challenged and engaged. The story doesn't quite do enough to draw you into the author's plight and keep you hooked, but the flying alone carries this game far.

How We Soar is a title where you can take as much time as you like to explore it. While the story is serviceable as a backdrop, it’s actually the environments that steal the show. Gliding around and exploring the levels is relaxing for the most part, apart from a couple of moments of disorientation. The artwork throughout is sublime and the music fits it all perfectly, though it sits along titles like Bound, where the art and experience also outshine the plot. If you have a PSVR and are keen to play something that doesn’t take too much effort while providing some great visuals then How We Soar is a worthy pick.

The world’s themselves are beautiful, stunning and make you feel like you’re flying, but the level design is held back by monotonous gameplay objectives.

Bolstering the ever increasing ranks of PSVR efforts that place a premium on calm and relaxation over challenge and depth, How We Soar is a charming title that embraces calming spectacle over mechanical ambition.

Some minor iffy moments aside, How We Soar is a beautifully relaxing game, with tight presentation and some sound controls. A lovely concept that's really well executed, this is another wonderful example of why virtual reality gaming represents the way forward, and you should certainly check it out if you haven't done so already.

How We Soar shows off some lovely locations, making some great use of VR. More than that, though, it tells a good relatable story, has fun mechanics that take advantage of flight, and is the game that made me stop and rethink how VR can be used for other games.

How We Soar has a lot of potential, but it’s left unrealized in what ultimately amounts to a very unfulfilling game.

There's a lot of potential, but it would be much cooler with dragons. And fire.

How We Soar is greater than the sum of its parts and is an incredible experience that should be played by all PlayStation VR owners.

I can say that Penny Black Studios has crafted a beautiful, relaxing PlayStation VR experience in How We Soar. The game is built on an interesting idea that is relaxing under every layer that you unfold. Controls, gameplay, art style, and soundtrack all come together to form one of my favorite PlayStation VR games to date.

How We Soar is a super chilled-out game, no questions asked. Flying around on top of the magnificent phoenix is incomparable to any other game - yes, even Eagle Flight, they're different! - and it really does need to be seen to be believed. There's a decent story tucked away within the scattered pages, but there's not much reason to go back in once you've seen it through to the end.
