Critic Reviews for VR Invaders

A game doesn't always need to be flashy in order to be great. It doesn't need the backing of a major license. Sometimes it just needs to do what it sets out to do very well to stand out above the rest. VR Invaders is a superbly crafted bullet hell VR game that is highlighted not by an ostentatious setting, but rather excellent game design. It's just a shame that excellent game design in VR more often than not means the experience ends far too early, lacking a good balance between mechanics and content.

VR Invaders is a totally average VR wave-based shooter that does absolutely nothing more than work competently. There are many more interesting games available on PSVR.

VR Invaders: Complete Edition is a ton of fun with tight responsive controls and great graphics and audio. It runs into the same problem many other VR games have right now though and that is that it’s short and doesn’t have a lot of content. It only lasted me around two hours before I kind of got bored with it but in that two hours I had a lot of fun with it. If what is here sounds worth it to you and you don’t mind the short length I highly recommend it.

VR needs something that can be enjoyed timelessly, something that can be picked up and played for 30 minutes or an hour each day and provides some kind of unique fun each time. VR Invaders succeeds at this, with gameplay that is timeless, going back to the fundamental roots of the medium, but unfortunately with the same flaws, too.

VR Invaders may not offer a 10+ hour campaign, but it does offer a very enjoyable and immersive VR shooting game experience with vibrant visuals and challenging gameplay.

If you grew up in the arcades of the 80’s and 90’s or have not yet experienced the old school fun of a game like Galaga, this game is for you. If you can’t sleep until you have the high score on a particular game so that it can be lorded over family and friends, this game is for you. If you enjoy hectic and immersive gameplay and virtual reality, this game is for you. If you believe gameplay comes before story in a game and don’t mind playing the same level repeatedly, this game is for you. If you answered no to any of the previous questions then this game might not be for you; and if you answered no to all of the previous questions, then I don’t know if we can be friends anymore.
