As a whole package Immortal Redneck is a bold first step and demonstrates that the FPS genre, too, can definitely benefit from the addition of roguelike elements. As you unlock your skill tree you won’t feel quite as helpless and will hopefully stumble into a starting configuration that helps you kick some ass in earnest. When you’re just in the zone and shooting things up for the most part everything feels good, it’s really only when you have to try to complete some jumping puzzles that things start to unravel. The good thing is that in any given run you may not notice the problem almost at all since everything is generated procedurally, just when you need to do some jumping and have enemies coming at you at the same time that it can feel a bit unfair. I look forward to more attempts on this formula as it shows a great deal of potential for further fun.
There are very few things wrong with Immortal Redneck. With all of the different enemies, guns, characters, and levels to try, it will be hard to put this game down.
If you're a fan of DOOM, Unreal Tournament and Quake, then Immortal Redneck will take you on a trip down memory lane with its mechanics peppered with Southern spice and a sprinkle of bullet mayhem.

In making connections to games like Rogue Legacy and Ziggurat, they were only the building blocks of what Immortal Redneck is, a game with its own ideas and systems that stand above its contemporaries. Immortal Redneck is a game so silly it just works, and the jokes land well – I laughed until I was Horus.
Immortal Redneck is an old-school first-person roguelike with all the bells and whistles. It's tough but fair, fun and steeped in a silly aesthetic. Perfect for a reliable departure from your backlog.

Whether you’re an FPS fan or not, Immortal Redneck is a game that you should take out of your backlog and try it out for yourself. It isn’t something that demands all your attention, you can take your time or just speed run it as best as you can. What’s more, if you’re looking for a challenge I honestly couldn’t think of recommending any other game than this one.
