Let this not deter you, though. If you're looking for an accessible, free-to-play MOBA that isn't trying to nickel-and-dime you at every turn, then MXM is the game for you. A few small flaws aside, MXM is a treat among free-to-play MOBAs that shows imagination and restraint not often shared among its peers.

Master X Master isn't really a traditional MOBA, it is even better than that. The title is a "hybrid" between different kinds of games. Master X Master offers an intuitive gameplay, a great number of playable characters, and a content that doesn't have to be ashamed regarding the competition. Visually good, MxM has everything to make its place and give a little wind of freshness to the genre.

What really sets MXM apart is its PVE, and it's the feature I hope the game leans more heavily on going forward. Either way, MXM is a solid entry to NCSOFT's stable, and they should be proud of what they've achieved. It's had little fanfare around the web, which is a shame. If any of what I've described sounds like something you'd enjoy, MXM is well worth a look.

From the creators of Guild Wars and WildStar comes Master X Master, a new MOBA which doesn't change the typical gameplay of its genre, but shows an interesting PVP and PVE game mode.

A re-inventive MOBA that isn't perfect, especially with its free-to-play scheme, but still rises above the pack.

Despite the few minor issues with the game, MXM has a lot of unique features that make it worth trying. There's not much to lose, even if you don't decide to stick around, and it could end up being your new favorite MOBA.

The game is trying to be something new in a world of companies just making MOBAs without much thought. There are some things that make the game interesting like the tag system and it’s overall style but they shoot themselves in the foot by having all these systems that aren’t that satisfying to deal with or can really put off players from sticking around.

Master x Master is not the best at any one thing, but it offers such a variety that you can't help but find something to enjoy. Combined with a free-to-play model isn't too harsh and you have a damned good time. The progression system could use a bit of slimming as it's rather complex, but that shouldn't turn players off completely. Master x Master is definitely worth a shot.

Master X Master is a fresh take on the stagnating MOBA genre, with character switching offering a fantastic level of depth to PVP and a decent chunk of available PVE instances to grind and loot. Definitely worth taking a look at.
