Children of Zodiarcs does well to stand with the heavyweights. It has enough uniqueness to it that you won’t consider it another clone. The banter between characters is excellent. While I enjoyed the orchestrated soundtrack, voice acting was missed. It would have done so much to add to this great game.

Children of Zodiarcs is a turn-based RPG that leaves out the most classic style of the genre by adding dice and cards. What does not change is the style of the story, typical of RPGs, but it does not stop hooking and filling us with curiosity. Social criticism is more present than ever, this time with children as protragonists.

To put it simply, Children of Zodiarcs is a fantastic, challenging and hugely enjoyable tactical RPG; however, a lack of variation in its gameplay stops it from being so much better. Speaking broadly, Children of Zodiarc is a rather ambitious title, feeling somewhat scaled down. Perhaps its biggest flaw is that it leaves players wanting for more, which can also be considered a compliment. It honestly feels at home in Square Enix' own catalogue, and it's a shame that the publisher presumably had no role in funding. This is a title rich with potential and passion from its developers, but it's still very short and sweet.

Cardboard Utopia’s Children of Zodiarcs is the next “Final Fantasy Tactics” that you’ve been waiting for. While there may not be classes for your characters to switch between, dive into a world based on dice rolls and the luck of the draw as a group of children try to survive by stealing from the rich in order to buy enough food to survive.

Children of Zodiarcs plays out in a series of levels and missions in which your rag tag group of orphans, that all seem to possess some astonishing powers, must over come the enemy in turn-based combat.
