I have played numerous Telltale Games titles over the years, and there are certain trends I have noticed along the way. Usually the first and penultimate episodes tend to drag a bit, for example. While I cannot yet speak for the latter scenario, I have to say I was very impressed with how Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 1: The Enigma kicks things off.

‘The Engima’ offers a great action-packed introduction to Batman: The Enemy Within, with the main players of the season clearly established along with some exciting teases of what’s to come. The action sequences were top notch, the decisions you had to make tense, and the overall presentation as dark and gritty as you’d expect from the depths of Gotham City – it really is a fine showing for the Caped Crusader. The frustrating issues that come with Telltale Games’ releases were present and I did feel like a few tricks were missed with the game’s puzzling, but overall it’s got me incredibly excited to see what’s going to happen next. It’s a welcome return to Batman – The Telltale Series, and Episode Two can’t come soon enough…

Telltale Games has really gotten into a rhythm in recent years with churning out game after game and yet they still manage continual quality output. If you enjoyed the first season, there is no question you need to check out Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 1 – The Enigma. If you haven’t, you really should get on that sometime.

Season 2 of Batman: The Enemy Within is off to a much stronger start than Season 1 and with the twists, turns, and startling revelations that capped off last season's Finale, I cannot wait to see where Telltale takes this series next.

The episode itself spans about 2 hours long, which I believe is longer than your typical Telltale episode, so I very much enjoyed that (think is something characterized for Batman, I do believe the game’s episodes were longer than usual, or maybe that’s just the feel I’m getting … but I believe they are, because Tales from the Borderlands had that feel … feel only, so I can differ). In any case, I will definitely be eagerly awaiting what comes next in store for Batman…

Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 1 has more action and character building with better writing than previous entries. The Riddler is a terrifying, yet oddly sympathetic villain, and he is a great contrast to Batman. These are the perfect ingredients in an episode that felt very contained and complete by the end while still leaving you hungry for more. Please do not make us wait too long, Telltale.

The Enigma was an excellent start to the second season and it really didn't hold anything back.

The Enigma is a great starting point for Telltale's new season of its Batman series. It has plenty of content, action, albeit in QTE form, and a great narrative that is only the start of this season's nefarious arc.

In one of the stronger starts to a Telltale season, Batman: The Enemy Within builds on the new mythos Telltale has created for the classic DC Comics hero. Villains are still villains, but Telltale gives them enough twists to feel new. Great pacing, good tension, and what looks to be an improved engine make for a great Batman adventure. Hopefully they can keep the momentum up for the whole season.

Batman: The Enemy Within's first episode named The Enigma is troubled by the mistakes that have been characteristic for Telltale' titles over the years, but the character of Batman himself and the whole universe around him have just enough power to attract the player. We'll see how the second season will continue, but the beginning is not at all bad.
