Critic Reviews for Townsmen - A Kingdom Rebuilt

An ideal recommendation for veterans of the genre, Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt scratches a really familiar itch. But there's nothing new here to entice newcomers away from other titles.

Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt is a familiar-feeling town management sim, with some mobile mechanics that hover very close beneath the surface. This game will feel instantly familiar to fans of the genre, with few surprises or innovations. There is some fun to be had for patient players willing to wait for timers to run their course, but the price point is prohibitive. If you are interested in Townsmen, I would advise waiting for a sale.

Townsmen - A Kingdom Rebuilt is a decent console project with some structural problems that may risk to ruin the experience. HandyGames has the skills to do something more in future.

At its root, this city builder is thematically and structurally solid. The only issues with it is that the growth of a city is a very linear and repetitive process that only a few romps through the scenarios and a player will have easily seen almost all there is to see. Those plays will have been fun, but there is little longevity in here at all. While building a city a few times is fun, it is so similar every time it quickly loses its charm.

Lead your citizens to build prosperous kingdom...again. It is more polite now, but without bigger improvements.

Townsmen: A Kingdom Rebuilt is a fine experience to check out for those who wish to dabble in the fun and thoughtful process of setting up supply lines. While completing and overseeing a thriving supply line is quite a fulfilling process, and resource production becomes an automatic system, this is all that this seems to have going for it. Beyond ensuring that the cogs keep turning, there is a real lack of drive or motivation to keep progressing beyond keeping bandits and avalanches at bay. Despite the deep system that underlies the kingdom-building aspects, it's still missing a few ingredients that could've elevated this experience. However, for those searching for a new resource-management city-builder set in the medieval ages, this title is worth considering.

Townsmen: Kingdom Rebuilt is a good city building and management simulator and knows how to deal with the historical period in which it is located. There is a very diverse range for different buildings and a deep system of production chain and systematization of the economy, although it does not bring anything very original. It carries audiovisual and interface glitches, the vast majority due to the heritage of its mobile origins, but it can be a good option for fans of the genre.

Rebuilt Townsmen – A Kingdom continues THQ Nordic’s policy of re-releasing the franchises they’ve purchased, and while it is a very fun city building simulator, its roots in mobile platforms slows down the speed of many gameplay functions. All in all, Rebuilt Townsmen is a solid city building simulator for mobile devices, but when it comes to competing with PC titles, it’s a different story.
