Shortest Trip to Earth is a brutal spacefaring roguelike, whose challenge occasionally undermines the depth and quality of the overall experience.
A difficult, interesting journey through deep space that constantly has you making interesting decisions. The complexity isn't always a good thing but there is a ton of replay value here.
All in all, I think that Shortest Trip to Earth has a niche appeal.
It is a much bigger game than FTL and because of that, its flaws are much more pronounced. Yet it remains fun and I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t enjoy it if you liked FTL. It has a ton of variation to play with and a lot to manage. Just keep in mind that the randomness is all part of the fun and sometimes you can do everything right and still lose.
This game is not going to be something to appeals to everyone, or even to a large audience of gamers. But there is a dedicated group out there that will appreciate what there is to offer here.
