Naoki Hamaguchi has spent the last ten years pouring his "heart and soul" into reimagining the seminal Final Fantasy 7 as a trilogy. So, it's hardly surprising that when asked what game he'd like to remake next, he suggested that "working on something completely new would be quite fun".
But there is one other classic JRPG that he would love to revisit with the same care and attention to detail. "If I had all the time and money in the world, Final Fantasy 6 is my favourite mainline title," Hamaguchi said in an interview with Windows Central. "That would be very cool to take on as a remake."
Hamaguchi previously stated that he would not be interested in remaking Final Fantasy 8.
Released in 1994 for the SNES, Final Fantasy 6 was the last of the classic 2D pixel-era games and was a stark change of pace from prior titles. Set thousands of years after The War of the Magi, in a world where magic ceased to exist, it follows the emergence of a young mage with mysterious powers against a uniquely industrial backdrop.
