Mina the Hollower became the highest-rated game of the year this week in a race where the lead has already changed hands more times than I can count. Amid the excitement of Mina scoring so highly, another indie game that also launched this week achieving the same lofty score has gone largely unnoticed.
Mina debuted to a 92 on OpenCritic, a score that has since crept up to an even more impressive 93 as more reviews have been published. That's better than Forza Horizon 6, which was the prior frontrunner for 2026's best-reviewed game, and a higher average score than 007 First Light, which has also gone down a storm with reviewers.
It is not, however, a higher score than Schrodinger's Call. Schrodinger's Call is a visual novel that launched earlier this week from developer Acrobatic Chirimenjako, and it currently has a 93 on OpenCritic, putting it level with Mina.
There are already more people playing Mina on Steam at the same time than there ever were playing Shovel Knight.
Well, that's not technically true. Even though Schrodinger's Call does have a 93, it appears to be an ever-so-slightly lower 93 than Mina. At least that's what...
