4 / 10.0 - Typoman
Dec 18, 2015

Typoman is a gorgeous game with a lot of half-baked ideas (and physics) and, frankly, deserves better. As it exists, the game is not worth recommending.

9 / 10.0 - FAST Racing Neo
Dec 8, 2015

At the end of the day, the lack of character doesn't weigh heavily on the quality. This is a balls-to-the-wall, lightning fast racing game that soars with gripping gameplay and excellent visuals. If you've been longing for a new F-Zero or another rad racing game, this is for you.

8.5 / 10.0 - Pokemon Picross
Dec 3, 2015

But to me, those few issues are worth wading through because moment-to-moment puzzle gameplay in Pokémon Picross is dependable and excellent. It's a perfect gateway drug to nonogram puzzles if you've never tried them before. And if you're a Picross vet hankering for more, this is well worth diving into as long as you're okay with the fact that, if you want to play this free-to-start game without mindlessly repeating puzzles ad nauseum, you're going to have to spend some money.

But when all of its parts come together, it feels weird and clumsy. It takes out one of the best parts of the series, doesn't quite deliver on others, and compromises its difficulty progression. The best things about it are, for better or worse, the things it has been doing well since the Game Boy Advance.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash isn't good in the slightest. While the game can be decent in passing, it's a horrible value when you stop and think about it. There is just one stadium, limited online options and less features than the previous two entries.

9 / 10.0 - Stella Glow
Nov 13, 2015

As we come to the end of the year, I figured there'd be an Atlus-published strategy RPG on my game of the year list; I just never imagined there'd be two. But Stella Glow made beautiful music with my heart, and you definitely need to pick it up and get that soundtrack CD. Good night, Imageepoch – sadly, there will be no encores.

I loved Octodad's premise right when I heard about it, and I'm glad to finally have the chance to play it. The Wii U version doesn't run at 100%, but It's already sold me on any projects Young Horses works on in the future. I just hope it comes to a Nintendo platform sooner.

9 / 10.0 - Yo-Kai Watch
Nov 4, 2015

While a lot of missions boil down to a lot of fetching and running around, the charm behind the story and strategy-driven battling system create a fun world to explore and master. It's a fresh take on the genre that can pull in more than just Pokémon fans waiting on the next game. Yo-kai Watch is a surprising hit that builds on itself the more you play, demanding more thought and focus than its cheery exterior suggests.

At the end of day, there is not much to Cutie Pets Pick Berries. The style is silly, but there is no substance to give it any weight. It is entertaining for a little bit, but after that, the game offers nothing to compel the people who foolishly purchased it. That is the saddest part about it.

8 / 10.0 - Guitar Hero Live
Oct 28, 2015

Even with the disappointing Live mode, Guitar Hero Live is a refreshing take on controller-based rhythm games. The streaming focus in GHTV works extremely well despite some technical hiccups, and as long Activision keeps rolling out new songs to the library, this is the kind of game I'll be regularly playing for a long time. This is a fantastic start to a new era of Guitar Hero games.

As a single-player experience, Tri Force Heroes has its moments but playing through it solo is just a stark reminder of the game's multiplayer focus. At its best, single-player can be nice when you're trying to lock down a specific material for an outfit. But, if you're planning on getting Tri Force Heroes and playing it by your lonesome, I don't recommend it.

By default, I feel as if this is the best Adventure Time video game so far. It's not perfect, and it's a little on the easy side, but as an Adventure Time fan, it made me smile.

Despite these nitpicks, this game is a triumphant revival of a series that has remained dormant in North America for several console generations, and for those who did get to play the Wii iterations there is much new spooky fun to be had. Fatal Frame is still the crowning king of the genre, and Maiden of Black Water holds the best representation of everything that makes the series great. The fact that an English release of this game exists at all is cause for celebration, and should definitely not be missed by fans of survival horror or Japanese ghost stories. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is good to the last drop.

Yoshi's Woolly World is game that doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't. It capitalizes on cute and charming and creates a worthwhile game with plenty to look forward to. Its fatal flaw is only that its appeal runs short for gamers who look for the complexity and skill challenge Nintendo's other platformers offer.

Chibi-Robo: Zip-Lash is a fun game. It's got some frustrating moments (stage select, vehicles) but the highs outweigh the lows, and I like the Amiibo functionality. Give it a shot, kids.

8.5 / 10.0 - Toto Temple Deluxe
Oct 6, 2015

If you've got access to a group of friends who are down for some weird concepts and Capra-based shenanigans, Toto Temple Deluxe should definitely be on your radar. There's something just plain fun about hurtling yourself into a goat from three-quarters of a screen away in order to sneak out a one-point win. It's ludicrous, but it works, and I hope Juicy Beast has more of these concepts because I'm down for whatever they've got.

Disney Infinity 3.0's Inside Out Playset is competent, and probably will be enjoyed by young kids who are excited to play as these characters. Unfortunately, as Nintendo fans who have been enjoying a glut of Mario games in recent years, this platforming action doesn't make the cut. It's a bit of Sadness and Anger all wrapped into one little package.

8 / 10.0 - Extreme Exorcism
Sep 22, 2015

Extreme Exorcism is a fun game bolstered by an extraordinarily unique concept. The game's campaign wears a little thin by the end, but the ride from start to finish is delightful. If you have friends to play with, the multiplayer is well worth the price of admission, as the weapon variety and unbridled insanity make it a hell of a time.
