Overall I was very happy with my time playing Kirby: Star Allies. It's not quite the system seller other Nintendo first-party titles are and doesn't really do anything new, but it's definitely a very fun experience for both veteran fans of the series and newcomers alike.

6 / 10.0 - State of Decay 2
May 27, 2018

As it stands, it's a fun enough budget title that fails to live up to the expectation of fans, including myself. I wanted a game that expanded on all the good things from SoD 1 and fixed some of the issues. What I got was basically a retread with a new coat of paint.

As a stand alone game or as an entrance to the series, I would highly recommend skipping this saccharine walk through half realized ideas.

This is the definitive version of Dragon's Crown, but do yourself a favor and wait for it to go on sale. Your wallet will thank you.

Pillars of Eternity 2 is an excellent CRPG that improves upon the original in every single aspect, as well as creating the best naval combat minigame in the history of gaming. Combine that with the huge world, 100 hour quest, supreme non-linearity, and immense replay value afforded by the deep character creation and you have the one game you shouldn't be allowed to miss this year.

6 / 10.0 - Far Cry 5

If you love Far Cry already, you'll probably like this one too. If you hate the series with a passion, the fifth entry isn't gonna change your mind in the slightest.

8 / 10.0 - God of War

It's worth a playthrough just to see the dynamic between father and son and how well-crafted the world is, just don't expect much in the way of an actual story and be prepared for all questions you may have while playing to be thrown back at you at the very end of the adventure.

Is the closing of Kiryu's chapter in Yakuza 6 fulfilling? Honestly I would say no. I expected a bit more from it going in, but does it make sense? Absolutely.

For me, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet was a great game that scratched that same "I want to blow things up and gain power" itch that Borderlands and PSO did for me, and while I wouldn't want anyone to pay full price for such a game, I'd highly recommend it to bored ARPG fans that catch it on sale and need something to get them through a lean gaming period.

Overall, if you've watched the anime, you won't get anything else out of this game other than the fun (and it really is fun) of killing Titans. If you're a newcomer to the series or have only played the first game, Attack on Titan 2 will get you fully caught up with the story to date outside of the manga.

6.5 / 10.0 - Secret of Mana HD

Essentially just a new coat of paint, a rookie soundtrack remastering, and a few voice actors.

7 / 10.0 - Into The Breach
Mar 27, 2018

I gave Into the Breach about ten hours of my time, and while I don't feel like that time was wasted, I also have no desire to go back and play it again. After one or two playthroughs, you'll have seen just about everything the game has to offer.

The main cast, the plot, the music, and the visual styles will be memorable for years to come.

For all its flaws, and there certainly are many, Kingdom Come: Deliverance still provides a gripping, inspired open world, replete with interesting characters, thrilling battles, and gorgeous views. If you can get past your horse occasionally floating into space, and characters appearing without heads here and there, you'll be in for a real treat.

Bluepoint Games did the impossible: they took one of the greatest games of all time, rebuilt it from the ground up, made sure it didn't lose a bit of its impact. For that alone, this game is an achievement. It's only one of the best PlayStation 4 games of all time, it's also one of the greatest remakes of all time. It's not the game you remember: it's even better.

Jumping from handheld to the big screen has been nothing but a delight for me. It's great to see everything redone, and not bound by portable systems' graphical limitations. There were a few bumps along the road, but most of my gripes are minor, feeling like little nitpicks in an otherwise fantastic game.

8.5 / 10.0 - Subnautica
Feb 1, 2018

In the end, Subnautica manages to succeed where many others have tried and failed miserably. It proves, to me at least, that there are exceptions to the seemingly all-encompassing 'four horsemen' meme. It's a thoroughly enjoyable experience, where crafting and exploration are complimented perfectly by the simultaneously beautiful and chilling atmosphere on display.

I was thoroughly impressed with Dragon Ball FighterZ and cannot recommend it enough to both fighting game fans and or fans of the Dragon Ball universe. It may have some minor issues here and there as it just launched, but this is a fighter you cannot pass up.

If you're looking for a game that presents a story that is pretty grounded in reality yet presents some twists and interesting character development, you should consider checking out Before the Storm. Still, you should be wary of the game's performance issues and don't expect mind blowing writing.

Any fan of the original Xenoblade will find very little to turn them off from this sequel, and to be honest, most JRPG fans in general will walk away with at least a few good memories by the time the credits roll.
