Ultimately, the game is best taken at face value. I'm sure someone somewhere will have tried to make this game as efficient as possible, and in a few cases there were matches where the usual online FPS player behaviors sprung their ragequitting, derivative-slinging heads. However, the gameplay moves just right to make this sort of thing easy to ignore, and finding fun ways to pull together and get a spectacular win or an embarrassing loss is the ultimate reason to play.
World of Warships is fast paced and fun, and the graphics are quite pretty; the water effects in particular are stunning. My only complaints are little ones; the length of time it takes to get ships past tier 3 or 4 being chief among them. It's fun, it's free, it's multiplayer, with PvP and PvE modes, and it is pretty. What else could we ask for?
It's a short experience but if I had to score it out of ten I'd give it a solid 8 purely for the tension I felt throughout. It's strange that something so inspired by and owing so much to The Secret World actually suffers slightly from being linked to it instead of standing alone, in the dark.
Great style, refreshing gameplay, and lots of small, frequent updates, even if Nintendo's still squashing communication and hasn't learned everything about options and standard practices that make other online games successful.
The game is an appealing blend of shooter and RPG, and it offers some truly unique opportunities to participate in some really large-scale battles. If I were a little better at shooters or I had a larger group of interested friends, then PlanetSide 2 would definitely be a game I would like to try out on my Playstation 4.
What Blackrock Mountain brings to Hearthstone is a memorable experience, but not much in terms of actual card value. Many of the cards obtained in the adventure are incredibly situational and most likely aren't going to see much play. There was, however, a lot of thought and effort put into designing the boss encounters, and it also allows for some interesting deck constructions in the arena mode.
[F]or those who like dungeon/raid feels, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate should scratch that itch for you. No, it's not an MMO, but it's a strong example of what MMOs that want to focus on that aspect should be doing. Being on the 3DS means the game also can function as a mobile MMO-like game; it worked well on a connection from my phone after I went over my data limit while I was in Japan, which was quite impressive. There are hours of content to explore, either alone or in groups.
To summarize, Elite: Dangerous is awe-inspiringly beautiful, but a time sink of galactic proportions.
All in all Onigiri is just not a good game. There are really no redeeming qualities unless you really like manga, more than solid gameplay, and enjoy repetitive grinding in uninspired worlds. If you're looking for a manga-inspired game than there are solidly better choices already on the market such as Dragon Nest and Elsword. Neither of those games are perfect either, but at least they're not the crapshoot Onigiri is.
While Natural Doctrine does use an innovative combat system and has can be a very enjoyable experience, that feeling of accomplishment is sabotaged just before the game becomes fun. On the positive side of thing, this game doesn't have to be doomed and at its core it has a lot of potential to be great. However, the blatantly unfair AI mechanics in combination with the relatively diluted multiplayer experience really hurts Natural Doctrine in the end.
Dota 2 has proven itself unshakable in the face of father time. Being originally released in 2005, we can see without a doubt that its foundation has not even begun to crumble. Instead, we have seen nothing but a steady incline of players over 10 years. While this has the capability of creating something of a toxic community, some may prefer saturation over comfort to provide an on-going dynamic experience in difficulty.
There is simply no other game on the market like Dungeon of the Endless. The game mechanics are diverse and each play attempt is just as exciting as the last. This is a great game for anyone who's sick of scripted gameplay and wants to try something that's clever and daring. Not only is the game itself amazing but the soothing synthesized chiptunes created by FlybyNo set the dark and dreary atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and pickup Dungeon of the Endless, it's fairly inexpensive and well worth the money.
I had high hopes for Destiny, and if they decide to add matchmaking for every part of the game, it can be a better experience for everyone. And if they manage to pump out updates every week, Destiny stands a chance on becoming this year's best FPS, but at the moment, it is a very mediocre game which we have seen so many times before.
It's been quite awhile since I have enjoyed myself this much in an MMO. It makes me reminisce about sandbox games of old. ArcheAge is a game that thrives on its player interactions. It will live or die by its community, but the PVP and extensive freedom of choice might just keep you playing for a long time to come.
Divinity: Original Sin might not be an instant classic, but it certainly feels like one at times. During parts of my playthrough I felt as though I was replaying Baldur's Gate, without the terrible graphics and archaic mechanics, but I don't know if it was truly unique enough to be remembered like the games it was attempting to emulate. It's going to please a lot of experienced RPG gamers and those that love a challenge, but with virtually no hand holding and punishing combat mechanics it's going to turn off the more casual player base.
I really wanted to like this game, but it has barely touched upon its potential, and while it comes with a working game design and world, that is all it really has, and I do hope this will change over time, otherwise Firefall will slowly die out, and not really be remembered.
Even with its slight setbacks in the areas of community development and inadequate in game tutorials, Magicka: Wizard Wars is an enchanting title. With a small download size and accessible game play I highly recommend that everybody give this title a spin. In a world filled with HoNs, LoLs and DOTAs, Magicka is a refreshing change of pace that might just have you clicking that matchmaking button over and over again.
WildStar is visually stunning, fun to play, and just feels new. Despite the overwhelming number of systems it has an incredibly easy learning curve, and is overflowing with entertaining content.It's clearly the first real step towards the necessary evolution of the genre. Ultimately this game may not satisfy everyone that tries it, but everyone that has played or will play MMOs really does need to try it.
All in all, Smite is not a perfect game. Anyone familiar with HiRez will remember what they did with Tribes: Ascend. What was once a fun game became cluttered with pay to win advantages and heavy mismanagement. Regardless, Smite is a fun game, and as of right now is void of any pay to win schemes.
It is safe to say that we can expect Blizzard Entertainment to come up with more ways to make Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft more fun and more enticing. As the developers did claim how creating a game like Hearthstone is something quite out of their comfort zone but despite of their worries, it did turn out quite well and still has a lot of room for improvement. It makes me wonder how far they can go with this game when the world knows that Blizzard Entertainment goes all out when it comes to jaw dropping updates and making things more interesting.
