GBAtemp's Reviews

If you're into this genre of shooters then you are in for a real treat. This game is poles apart from Call of Duty or Battlefront, and that's a great thing. It's tactical, it's slower-paced and it's incredibly enjoyable to sink into and engage with.

6.5 / 10.0 - GreedFall
Sep 30, 2019

Unlike most studios in the industry which seem to deliver products that consistently fail to meet expectations and the hype, Spiders seems to manage getting better and better with each subsequent release. GreedFall is one of their better titles, if not the best, but it still falls somewhat short of being a truly great game. With that said, it's by no means bad, and it's certainly ambitious. If you find the subject matter intriguing, consider giving it a shot - it has lots to offer in terms of role-playing and storytelling, but fails in other areas.

An enjoyable game but not something that you have to play, it's disappointingly short and has a definite unfinished feel in places. I finished the game in three sittings, in well under five hours combined without really even trying to hammer through it on a moderate difficulty, so seasoned gamers will have this smashed in no time.

8 / 10.0 - The Sojourn
Sep 22, 2019

The Sojourn is a bizarre game. While not feeling like it pushes any kind of boundaries, it manages to put forward something new and interesting. Utilising simple graphics and an easy to grasp puzzling concept, it's incredibly easy to jump into, whether you're wanting to lose a few minutes or a few hours.

6 / 10.0 - Daemon X Machina
Sep 11, 2019

With a poorly executed plot, reused assets and a lack of challenge despite an intricate combat system, Daemon X Machina is an underwhelming title that could have benefited from a more polished narrative design and varied combats.

At the end of the day, Iceborne is an amazing expansion to an already amazing game. Providing greater challenges and greater rewards, tight and improved controls and a deep narrative of its own, this is a must own for both vets and newcomers to the series.

I cannot recommend Legend of the Skyfish to anyone. The title is very obviously meant to grab your attention and convince you that it is at all similar to The Legend of Zelda series. Unfortunately, there is very little charm to this game. The gameplay gets repetitive quickly and the difficulty spike occurs too late in the game to save it.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is both a cumulation of everything that makes the series so good, and an evolution of its shortcomings. Learning from past successes and failures, it stands proud as an experience accessible to the masses, with the core balance still intact. In this nest of choice and freedom still exists the linearity and resource management I personally adore. For those who want everything, it's there for the taking. For those who want a classic experience, you can pave through the game. For those wanting a fantastic Fire Emblem experience, look no further.

An atmospheric title with a solid gameplay loop blending stealth and strategic planning while bringing something fresh to a stale trope, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a great addition to any Nintendo Switch owner's library.

8.5 / 10.0 - Vacation Simulator
Aug 21, 2019

A stunning effort in building a range of experiences, in a coherent VR world, that keeps you intrigued throughout. It's a highly polished, physics packed, rollercoaster of excitement and exploration. Highly recommended for a bit of escapism and guaranteed fun.

If you're a Wolfenstein fan, don't buy this game. Not yet at least, wait until it's at least 30-50% off. This game is not worth full price.

Whether you're a hardcore fan or looking to discover Attack on Titan's story line for the first time through an interactive medium, I highly recommend Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle. However, if you already own the base game, it's probably best to wait on a price drop for the Final Battle add-on. I am hopeful that season 4 content will be added to the game at a later date, but even if that isn't the case, AOT 2 is a very fun and very well-rounded experience as it stands now.

"They Are Billions" is a kernel of a great game. I'm sure that the more complete PC release is thoroughly satisfying, but the console release, in its current state, feels incomplete. The developers forgot that the game is no longer in Early Access and have released a game that, ultimately, lacks some basic features. Nevertheless, I recommend it to fans of Tower Defense games and RTS'es, or at least I recommend picking it up once the title is actually complete.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is best enjoyed in co-op mode for short bouts of time, as otherwise it feels repetitive and uninspired despite packing some simple, yet interesting combat mechanics.

7.5 / 10.0 - Judgment
Aug 2, 2019

Fantastic story paired with relatively simplistic game-play makes judgment a great starting point to beginners of the genre, but the lack of depth in the action elements makes me confident now that Yakuza series (there are 11 games including spinoffs on PS4) would be a far more entertaining and involving game series to partake in on my PlayStation 4.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a true standout in the Switch's ever-glistening library of gems. From its brilliantly-paced progression to its secrets and thoughtful world design, it's a game you can play seemingly-endlessly. As long as you have a passion to build, as long as you're eager to create, develop, and grow, there will always be something to do. It is a game I wholeheartedly recommend to any Switch owner, and with a free demo available, there's no excuse not to give it a shot.

4 / 10.0 - Swag and Sorcery
Jul 4, 2019

Swag and Sorcery is a game I recommend avoiding at all costs. It would feel more at home as a smartphone game, but even then it might get buried by the availability of superior town/hero management sims.

4.5 / 10.0 - Our World Is Ended
Jul 2, 2019

The clashing tones and reoccurring issues make for one messy game that just ends up feeling pretty mediocre in comparison to most visual novels out there. With a couple of changes, this game could have been slightly average at best.
