4.6 / 5.0 - Dark Souls III
Apr 10, 2016

Despite catering to a slightly wider audience than previous entries, the fact remains that if you didn't really enjoy the Soulsborne games before then Dark Souls III won't go any way towards changing your mind, as most of the barriers of entry still remain – Vague storyline, esoteric puzzle solutions, high difficulty and an overall lack of direction.

4.1 / 5.0 - TrackMania Turbo
Apr 9, 2016

Trackmania Turbo combines the thrill of arcade racing with the addictive short-form challenges of games like Trials. The track design is exemplary, if seemingly intentionally designed to elicit the maximum possible amount of frustration from players, and the pick-up-and-play nature of the game makes the barrier for entry incredibly easy.

4.1 / 5.0 - Pokken Tournament
Apr 6, 2016

The experience that this game provides has been long overdue, and I praise it for doing such a terrific job. Considering the series currently contains 720 Pokémon, it's understandable that about 80% of them don't even appear as background scenery. Even with the presence of dozens of support Pokémon I can't help but think it could have been even better if the playable cast was larger.

If there’s anything I’d critique about the core gameplay, it’d be that the multiple objectives that occasionally each require immediate attention are straining. Dividing your attention across large maps, especially when you’re alone in battle is a wee bit stressful.

Bravely Second: End Layer is inextricably tied to its predecessor but still manages to be a fun, cute, old-school styled RPG.

4.6 / 5.0 - Quantum Break
Apr 3, 2016

Quantum Break is another incredibly satisfying action-adventure mystery from Remedy in the same leagues as Alan Wake and the original Max Payne – bolstered by a bigger budget which has resulted in a terrific cast of actors, complex and intriguing storyline and script, and well-implemented live action television sequences. The third-person cover-based gunplay, while executed better in other franchises, is still enjoyable, but it is the exploration of the environment for background details, clues and easter eggs is what makes the bulk of the gameplay enjoyable.

4.5 / 5.0 - EA Sports UFC 2
Mar 29, 2016

Simple enough to pick up, but tricky to really master, UFC2 has a lot going for it and if you are a fan of the sport it’s certainly worth the purchase. The roster is right up to date and if you feel a bit quirky (and don’t mind a bit of DLC) you can add Mike Tyson and Bruce Lee to your roster.

3.3 / 5.0 - Screencheat

Screencheat harkens back to those days of yesteryear where you could "spy" on people's screens during LAN gaming which is where this title succeeds on the XBox One!

Anarchy's Children DLC decks out your XCOM 2 soldiers in a crazy punk-rock, rebellious set of new cosmetic items - but it won't be for everyone.

The storyline can be a little underwhelming and some can argue that once you reach the end game there's not too much to do besides run the same few mission types over and over on higher difficulties. Whilst this is true to a degree, the sheer addictive thrill of increasing your weapon accuracy by two points well and truly sucked me in and I found myself finally understanding the draw of MMOs and games like Destiny.

Despite some interesting ideas The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition ultimately fails to engage. The plot is surprisingly dull despite letting you take a walk on the dark side and the combat soon becomes chore-like as you diligently spam square until your reach the next area.

I always remember Twilight Princess being my favourite Zelda game. Replaying the game in HD, I still feel the same way about it. No other Zelda game is yet to match the free-roaming world, the intense story or the magnificent dungeon design. Nothing beats taking Epona on a run through Hyrule Field, slashing at moblins on horseback. I expected more from the graphics upgrade after comparing Twilight Princess HD to 2013's Wind Waker HD, but this version of the game stands to prove that even ten years on, the game holds up well. I'd absolutely recommend picking this up for newcomers and veterans.

It's understandable that the release of Hitman in episodes may cause concern as it's not something that the gaming community will likely want for its triple-A titles. Though, with this particular game, I consider it paramount that IO interactive get it right, especially after the disappointing Hitman: Absolution, which felt incomplete.

Honestly, I'm surprised that The Following wasn't pushed as a genuine sequel, such is the robust nature of the new content, environments, missions and upgrades that are on offer here. That Techland decided to honour their fans by releasing such a massive expansion rather than nickle and diming players for superfluous costumes or whatever deserves commendation and generates a sense of good will, in me at least, that makes it easier to overlook the occasionally rough edges of the DLC, such as the extreme difficulty spikes during certain missions.
