Impulsegamer's Reviews

An interesting real time take on the strategy JRPG genre. Unfortunately bogged down by a generic story and a lack of purpose between missions.

3.1 / 5.0 - Chaos;Head Noah
Oct 10, 2022

Overall the Chaos;Head NoAH / Chaos;Child Double Pack is a mixed bag of a bundle. While both games have a great narrative, aesthetic, and soundtrack, the Nintendo Switch versions are unfortunately ridden with odd issues and executions. It's also worth noting that this version of Chaos;Head NoAH also cut some content from the original for censorship reasons. That said, if you'd like to play a genuinely interesting set of visual novels and don't care about the issues highlighted, there is still some enjoyment to be had with this port. Otherwise, I advise playing them on a different platform.

3.6 / 5.0 - Soulstice
Oct 6, 2022

Overall, Soulstice is very much a mixed bag of a hack-and-slash RPG. While it sports excellent properties like nice visuals and designs, an interesting premise, and excellent voice acting, it still lacks gameplay optimization, which, thankfully, can be fixed with a few patches.

4.6 / 5.0 - FIFA 23
Oct 6, 2022

The simple question: for owners of FIFA 22 on next-gen consoles, is it worth purchasing FIFA 23? The answer is a definitive 'yes.' While not a perfect upgrade, it's a noticeable one that takes many big steps in the right direction. Plus, if you're even a mild fan of women's football and/or Ted Lasso, this decision is a whole lot easier, in tandem.

Overall it's like many simulation games in that if you get in to it… you can find yourself somewhat zoning out to it and it can be a lot of fun. But it can also cause a lot of stress if you just can't find your rhythm. Ultimately, not without fault… but a decent bit of fun can be had and for a reasonable price too.

4.3 / 5.0 - Garden Simulator
Oct 2, 2022

Ultimately, it's a great chill out game, it's very low stress and you could even get some idea for how to design a garden (to some extent) with the range of items available to you. Just remember… don't water the cat… pat it, unless you want to get notes from your neighbours about animal abuse. Definitely grab it for some easy going virtual green thumb enjoyment!

All in all, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness sadly provides a more frustrating experience than enjoyable. Despite making a good effort to adapt the series' best attributes, its gameplay, short story, and poor performance greatly hinder the overall experience.

3.8 / 5.0 - Potion Permit
Sep 24, 2022

Potion Permit may not be the best life simulation or harvesting game you would play, but experiencing it shouldn't be empty of pleasure. Since you play as a Chemist rather than a farmer, this change itself promises unique things that the game provides most of them. While the story itself is well-written and simple, the characterization could have been much better. Even though the gameplay gets to the required pace a little late, once it does it becomes addictive rather quickly. The art style and music of the game have created good chemistry with the overall tone of the game.

Isonzo on the Xbox is like a reminder that you should never put tomato in a fruit salad. Play it on a PC if you play it at all.

Although not the worst movie tie-in-game, DC League of Super-Pets The Adventures of Krypto and Ace does have its moments that again is for that younger gamer. Nonetheless, a canine distraction of not-quite super-heroic proportions!

3.5 / 5.0 - LEGO Brawls
Sep 17, 2022

LEGO Brawls is simple fun that is best played together locally. Kids will enjoy the LEGO themed characters and environments (Ninjago, Monkie Kid, Jurassic World, Pirate, Western, Vidiyo, Hidden Side, Space, Castle, Alien Conquest) as they battle each other to victory via brick brawling!

4.3 / 5.0 - NBA 2K23
Sep 14, 2022

NBA2K23 is a product of many arguably long overdue, bold decisions, and they combine to produce the best 2K in seemingly forever. Yes, some outstanding quibbles persist, but massive upgrades to gameplay, AI, a legitimate emphasis on classic eras, and no contracts in MyTeam are all winners.

All in all, this game is off to a great start and hopefully Gameloft add voices to the dialogue as the game is quite text heavy and it would be great to hear Mickey, Buzz or Moana talk and sound like their related filmcounterparts. Even so, the text is clever and quite witty at times with a healthy dose of humour thrown into the mix.

4.4 / 5.0 - A Tale of Paper
Sep 8, 2022

A Tale of Paper: Refolded, is a beautifully illustrated game with a unique storyline. Although it is a little on the short side (game time wise), it is still really engaging, quirky, and not too difficult to solve. If you enjoy games like Limbo and Little Nightmares, then this game is definitely one for you to check out!
