The Deadly Tower of Monsters is a short but charming experience. The gameplay is what lets the game down needing an extra dose of polish in several areas but it's still decent enough to play. A creative style, a cheesy story and a stellar in-game commentary performance make this a title that shouldn't be missed for anyone with even a passing interest in classic sci-fi b-movies.
Screencheat is a clever shooter, but one that ultimately lacks depth or longevity. However, the sheer amount of fun to be had with friends is undeniable, and that aspect alone makes the game worth trying for those yearning for their local multiplayer fixes
Far Cry Primal is an innovative example of what developers can do to refresh a series. It worked surprisingly well by setting Far Cry all the way back to the Stone Age. It's brutal, relentless and wonderful to hear the thud of a well thrown spear into an enemies's chest.
Gunscape feels like wasted potential. It provides players with a neat creation tool but doesn't entice them to play around with it or try other people's creations. The awful plot and boring guns don't help, either, and the game will most certainly have a very short lifespan if the community loses interest so quickly
While the controls in Dub Dash are simple, beating stages is a challenge. Lovers of rhythm games may appreciate the variety and pacing of the stages, while those new to the genre will struggle to see later levels. When the music and gameplay match up, the game can be incredibly satisfying, but frustration kicks in from trying to complete levels with one life, in conjunction with some moments of unfair design.
The steampunk artstyle is a nice approach but it hasn't been pulled off to well coming across more bland than enticing. The gameplay more than makes up for it though, kept fresh by procedurally generated missions and rewards it ensures that no two playthroughs are ever the same. Ironcast offers up plenty strategic possibilities for players to mess around with but be warned that luck plays a heavy role in progressing to the later stages.
The Walking Dead: Michonne's premiere episode feels like a mixed bag. It's got fantastic action sequences and a great plot lying underneath all the uninteresting characters, lack of decisions and lackluster ending. If you're a fan of Telltale's previous work with the license, you should probably still give this one a go, but if you're new to this universe, there are much better places to start
Project X Zone 2's overall plot is pretty basic, but the focus is clearly meant to be on the numerous gaming characters, and their humorous banter with each other. The mixture of RPG combined with strategy and fighting in the combat gives the game a unique feel, even if the formula does get a bit repetitive at times.
Sickness is sinister, violent and bloody yet it's one you'll find hard to put down. It's a real stand out title from the visual novel genre, with much more brutality than romance. The protagonist for the most part can be very unlikeable as he takes some repulsive actions to which you don't have a choice over, but the rest of the narrative and characters more than make up for it. A must read for any visual novel fans looking for a bit of variation in their library.
Return to PopoloCrois is a charming RPG with a cute world, and characters, that players will find themselves getting attached to. While the basic combat is enjoyable, it can become repetitive if the random encounter rate is set too high. That being said, it is possible to break from the main quest at any point to go farming, befriend the local ladies, or complete side quests, that all work towards keeping the game fresh.
Megadimension Neptunia VII's combat system is nothing really ground-breaking. There are a number of fun and interesting battle mechanics to play around with, but it takes a good deal of time before they're all really needed. However Neptunia title will obviously be welcomed by its fans, and it makes a nice entry point for those wanting to get into the series with it's fun and amusing plot, along with fantastic character development.
There is nothing more satisfying in life than mowing down a group of infected with your Buggy. The Following is an exciting expansion to the already amazing base game, Dying Light.
Klaus is a delightful platformer stuffed with thought-provoking dialogue and ingenious level design. Its difficulty curve and control options could have used some adjustment, but this is an overall remarkable title with plenty to offer to those looking for a fresh take on the genre
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 really embraces the style its anime roots. The frantic combat is very enjoyable, despite an initially steep learning curve, and there's a multitude of modes and scenarios to duke it out in. Combine that that with stunning, flashy action packed scenes and you don't just get the best looking Naruto game but possibly the best looking Anime style title.
Adventures of Pip is a charming platformer, with an amusing story and world born from the game's central mechanic. The platforming and puzzles increase in difficulty with each level, while adding new challenges to keep the gameplay fresh. Some aspects of the platforming require a lot of precision, but this encourages players to improve their skills.
Not a Hero is an exceptionally well done shooter made a whole lot better by its inviting art style, generous amounts of gore and non-linear levels. It could have used some better writing, particularly in the jokes, but overall it's a game that never overstays its welcome and provides some good hours of fun
If you're a fan of the same LEGO formula, then you're sure to find something to enjoy from Marvel Avengers. Just don't expect the slapstick and spoof jokes that we've come to see in other titles, as here you only get a cutup retelling of the two films, complete with LEGO animations. The gameplay too doesn't offer anything new, though the open world environments are a nice deviation from the linear plot scenarios.
Between Me and The Night will draw in players with its atmosphere and puzzles, but may lose them with the confusing story. It has great variety between reality and a game-world, but a lack of depth limits player engagement and satisfaction.
AIPD – Artificial Intelligence Police Department brings little novelty to the genre, but it does cement itself as a solid contender in the sea of twin-stick shooters. Its limited customization options and repetitive game modes can occasionally get in the way, but its fantastic visuals and pulsating gameplay ensure that every wave of enemies is a hell of a lot of fun to blast to pieces
Sora can offer players a fantastic challenge. However, it takes a lot of practice before you can really enjoy this title, even when playing on the easiest settings. The mechanics offer multiple ways to play scenarios, but trying to remember each of them can be frustrating, and a lot of time, they get in the way of the fun fast-paced gameplay. Whether just playing through the melancholy story, unlocking weapons, or competing for high scores, Sora still makes for an enjoyable bullet-hell experience.
