Sep 21, 2016

Sorcery! pushes and exploits both genre tropes and limitations, not as mere parody but in order to provide a better role-playing experience. A masterful work.

World of Warcraft: Legion is easily the best product Blizzard Entertainment has released since the initial launch of World of Warcraft, and is an excellent expansion that every World of Warcraft player should at least try.

CASE: Animatronics has decent atmosphere and unintentionally hilarious voice acting, but nothing really stands out, and most of the game is filled with boring and familiar horror cliches.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst sets itself apart from its counterpart, Monster Hunter, with combat that is fluid, fast and fun for a gameplay loop that is addictive. The crafting is deep; the story is engaging, and fans of the genre should pay attention.

3 / 10.0 - ReCore
Sep 12, 2016

There's a good game buried somewhere in ReCore, but it's lost in the massive inconveniences the game throws at you. From constantly refusing to let the player move on until they complete side content (even in the middle of dungeons) to loading times that put Sonic 2006 to shame. A mechanically solid game with some fantastic level design that sadly delivers a narrative that is ho-hum at best.

1 / 10.0 - Big City Stories
Sep 10, 2016

Somehow not even getting the basics of a free to play city builder right, Big City Stories is easily one of the worst releases of 2016.

Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a great visual novel that is slightly diminished by its lackluster antagonist. The iteration on the rich world developed by the original anime is solid and well-paced. A fine addition to the genre on both home consoles and handhelds.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition features some of the most exciting boss fights in gaming mixed with lovely visuals and a decent story. It just needed some trimming of the filler to truly be a classic, but this new mode at least introduces a mode that's just that.

Touhou Genso Rondo Bullet Ballet is a game that successfully takes Touhou's gameplay and turns it into a two player game that is fun to play and has depth to boot. However, its lack of variety and features put a minor damper on an otherwise good experience.

2.5 / 10.0 - LA Cops
Aug 31, 2016

I'm pretty convinced LA Cops committed police brutality on me after I had to sit through its broken stealth, non-functional lock-on, useless partner AI, terrible level design, and stats that didn't do anything.

6.5 / 10.0 - Bound
Aug 30, 2016

Wonky camera controls and sub-par platforming aren't enough to take away from the fact that Bound is absolutely art in game form. Almost everything about the game is beautiful and unique, and if you find yourself enjoying games where gameplay takes a back seat to aesthetic, then you might want to think about picking up Bound.
