Unscored - Generation Zero
Mar 26, 2019

No aspect of Generation Zero is remarkable. It feels like a hollow husk of an experience waiting to be filled in by players who will never come.

For Honor: Marching Fire is in a weird spot. These are good updates, but I’m not sure it makes sense to shell out for the full package. While the new characters are fun, none of them change the game in such a way as to make them vital. Unless you’ve absolutely mastered the entire rest of the roster, you’ll find plenty to do outside of the premium options.

Unscored - Milanoir
May 31, 2018

I’ve played games that I would call “not fun” in the past. Somehow, Milanoir is a whole massive leap beyond that. My first and most overwhelming thought is that this is one of the games the devil makes you play for committing one of the seven deadly sins. I don’t know, pride maybe. The fact that so many indie games can look at Hotline Miami and pull all the wrong lessons from it continues to baffle.

The game I played is an absolute technical disaster that barely runs. New elements haphazardly pop up with no consideration on how to fit them into the gameplay. Basics such as storytelling take a massive leap backward. Dynasty Warriors 9 isn't just bad. This is a Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 level series killer.

Tower 57 is a gorgeous game with an old-school heart and absurd sensibilities, but it fails to put its best foot forward when you go in blind and alone.

In the end, I found Battle Chasers: Nightwar to be a great game for a very specific group of people that I happen to be outside of.

If you are a fan of Total War or Warhammer, I do not think I can persuade you from buying this DLC, if you’re someone who is more on the fence and already owns the Warriors of Chaos, you could wait until a sale to pick it up without missing much.

Unscored - Sudden Strike 4
Aug 11, 2017

Sudden Strike 4 barely manages to work on even a basic level, with so many glitches constantly stopping my game. If there were no glitches and if there was a working control scheme then maybe, just maybe, Sudden Strike 4 would be a totally average World War 2 RTS that doesn't really stand out in any way. In its current state, it's just a horrid mess.

This is another roguelike that pushes the genre forward, bringing pinpoint accurate jumping and shooting to the endless arcade randomization that players of these games love.

If you haven’t played any of the Dead Rising games, this is still the best one, and this gorgeous remaster is the best place to start.

What we’ve got here with Little King’s Story is a brilliant game ported to Steam with all the finesse and grace of a runaway monster truck. It’s good to be the king, just not on this platform.

Unscored - Battlefield 1
Nov 1, 2016

Overall, I still emphasize the fact that for those who expect a Battlefield game, that is exactly what you are given. At its core, it’s a competent shooter from a company that knows what it is doing, but it really should have been so much more. Perhaps shifting eras will be enough for most, but it feels like EA Dice went through the motions here. From the ho-hum campaign to the by-the-numbers multiplayer, it feels like a manufactured product rather than a game that developers poured their hearts and souls into, and that’s a real shame.

Any earnest intentions The Guardians of Peace ostensibly had can't disregard how terrible it looks, sounds, and plays.

Where the Bees Make Honey tries to convey its message through nostalgic childhood memories, unresponsive controls and a plethora of technical issues that undermine everything. There might be something to the puzzles, but they're weak and extremely buggy. This game is physically painful in its current state.

At several times while playing RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride, I became convinced I died and this was my personal hell. In a world where we thought the worst RollerCoaster Tycoon game had already shipped, Joyride shows up to claim that spot.

Even if you can get past the countless technical issues, Underworld Ascendant is a poorly designed abomination that ruins the Underworld series even to those who've never heard of it. This is the final nail in the Immersive Sim™ coffin. Bury it and salt the earth.

1 / 10.0 - The Quiet Man

The Quiet Man is an absolute disaster of ideas that don't work, bad design decisions, boring combat, ugly graphics, and attempting to use a real disability as a gimmick in a way that feels borderline insulting.

1 / 10.0 - Gene Rain
Aug 29, 2018

Gene Rain is a combination of so many terrible elements that at times it's genuinely, completely, baffling. At one point a character says "Existence has long been considered the only value in humans." I'm not sure I agree with him, because the other value in humans is their ability to not play Gene Rain.
