Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is an very good game that is held down by a mediocre story, a poorly implemented avatar, and uneven music. However, it is still an overall enjoyable experience, especially for fans of Strategy RPGs.
Pokkén is one of the most enjoyable, original titles that Nintendo has released in a long time. As a new spin-off to Pokémon, it's a welcome addition to the franchise, and the game offers its own unique niche as a fighting game.
I can only recommend NightCry to the most diehard of Clock Tower fans, people that enjoy the old point-and-click style of games of old and the weird shenanigans of classic video game horror. The barebones story, the cardboard characters, and stiff gameplay can only be saved by the hardest cases of nostalgia.
Hyper Light Drifter undoubtedly stands tall amongst its competition, as not only one of the best retro-inspired indie games to date, but simply one of the better overall indie games I've had the pleasure of playing.
Star Fox Zero is a mixed bag of good level design coupled with bad controls. It's a love letter of everything the series stood for, but it's written in crayon with several misspellings throughout. Even the most diehard of Star Fox fans will probably have trouble getting through this one.
Party Hard is excruciatingly repetitive, and it's not helped by the fact that nothing you do in the game is actually fun. Most of the time you're just waiting for targets to isolate themselves, or setting off traps, which may sound exhilarating, but it's really not.
Regardless of its occasional narrative shortcomings and blunders in level design, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is one of the most refreshing RPGS I’ve played all year. With an intriguing premise, outstanding aesthetics, and an amazing combat system, I couldn’t recommend a better game to fans clamoring for Persona 5.
This is an easy recommendation to those who are fans of both Batman and Telltale, even before the next four episodes are released. Others may want to hold off, since the story is this episode’s high point, future episodes will dictate the total worth of the series.
At first 'Monster Hunter Generations' seems like a rehash of past games, but some play time will show that it is one of the most innovative in the series. The sheer amount of experimentation, adventures, and general fun to be had with this game is boundless.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force feels nothing like a traditional Metroid title, however it's still a fun multiplayer experience that is sure to keep gamers blasting away.
A great stealth action game that improves on its predecessor in every way, only held back by a limited scope and a less then great plot.
Jotun: Valhalla Edition is worth your time, and offers beautiful art, great gameplay, and an engaging tale for a bargain price.
NBA 2K17 has raised the bar once again, not just for future iterations of the series but for every sports game developed moving forward. Hands-down 2K17 is the most authentic, and most entertaining hoops game on the market.
Telltale's Batman: Episode 2 not only exceeds the first episode in every way but manages a fresh take on Batman lore, which is no small feat.
While perhaps not adding as much as returning players may want, Destiny: Rise of Iron provides a trip down memory lane that hopefully doesn't end here, and certainly features Destiny at its best to date.
Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters: Daybreak Special Gigs is not a bad game. The visual fidelity is some of the best in the genre, combining anime style hand drawn art with fluid motion. The story itself is also very entertaining and will likely push players to get through the boring strategy segments in order to find out what happens next. Fans of visual novels will find plenty to enjoy here, while strategy fans will likely be disappointed.
Color Splash's story, gorgeous aesthetic, and brilliant writing keep it from being an absolute waste of time. But, it's utterly broken battle system proved to be just as aggravating and pointless as it was three years ago.
Shadow Warrior 2 is a great game, one that does its predecessor justice and remains true to what made its franchise, and the shooter genre of the 90's, great.
Aragami’s well designed levels and fast-paced stealth are a good core, but the game’s list of drawbacks hold it down. Fans of the stealth genre probably won’t regret the purchase, as the game is entertaining and offers rewards for both the pacifistic and merciless play styles as well as an ample amount of collectibles hidden throughout each stage, but players should come in expecting an average-at-best experience that may be marred by technical hiccups and annoying glitches.
Darkest Dungeon on PC is a fantastic game, and its Vita and PS4 versions carry on the tradition. Their interface is slightly clunky, but a few imperfections can't keep the classic gameplay down.
