Needless to say, this is most definitely not a game for everyone. The plot is a long string of sex jokes, and the gameplay is downright perverse. If you go in knowing to not take it seriously, though, you’re going to have a great time.

The things the game does well are worth an experience, but only at a budget price. Until then, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for your JRPG fix, and spare yourself the disappointment.

8 / 10 - I Am Setsuna
Jul 19, 2016

I am Setsuna is a beautiful, snow-filled love letter to former JRPGs. While the lack of variety may strike some players as boring, it sticks to its aesthetic and presents us with bits and pieces of what we loved from older JRPGs years ago.

With the past two series entries being on the PSP, I believe it would’ve made greater sense to stick to Sony’s handhelds in this case. Despite my personal grievances there, though, if you have a 3DS, Code: VFD is definitely worth owning.

...I find it difficult to actually give this game a recommendation, as I had a hard time even bringing myself to play through it. I would highly recommend checking out the soundtrack, though, as it is legitimately excellent.

If you have not played the original Clannad, or are not a fan of it, I would definitely not recommend this game, since there really isn’t anything here for you to enjoy. If you are a fan of the original, though, Side Stories is a mostly entertaining expansion to the original that, while weaker than the experience of Clannad, is worth your time.

At the end of the day, Umbrella Corps was a game that nobody asked for. It’s bad outweighs the good and because few people are playing, has longer wait times than a two day old competitive online shooter should.

Despite my complaints, Shinovi Versus is a game worth playing, but the over-the-top fanservice is not for everyone. Hell, I don’t even think it’s for me…but I don’t regret getting the chance to play this game.

In an age of unnecessary grit and brown tones, it's nice to be reminded that there are games out there that can succeed at being compelling, functionally competent, and beautiful at the same time.

If you’re looking to pour a bunch of time into a good story, I would highly recommend Root Double. Info-dumping and disappointing soundtrack aside, it’s an experience that I’m not soon to forget, and it is greatly worth your time.

What is offered here is interesting, if not perfect, and the artstyle presented is great. However, as a release priced at $12.99[...]for around 2 hours of playtime and no replayability, Resette’s Prescription is a difficult sell.

It’s not a perfect game by any means, but if you need your cute-girls-destroying-monsters fix, you can’t go wrong with MegaTagmension.

Sure, there are plenty of titles that poke fun at multiple aspects of gaming tropes and the surrounding culture. But sometimes pulling back the curtain in a creative way can really work to the medium's advantage.

If you’re a fan of classic games and want to see some of Sega’s past, I’d suggest maybe giving this release a look. It’s not a collection for everyone, though, and I’d recommend researching the games first before diving in.

These are minor grievances, though, as the overall package is definitely a game that needs to be played. The fact that it is a free release further enforces that point.

If you can hold off until it goes on sale or discount, or can find it for rental, this game is worth a few days of quick fun. As a new $60 release, though, I would look elsewhere for your next gaming investment.

If you are able to look past (or sleep your way through) the menu-heavy portions, you may end up enjoying the other things Trillion has to offer. Taking the package as a whole, though, I can’t really say Trillion even reaches mediocre.

If you’re already a fan of the Warriors series, this game is just more to love, and the strategy game on top of the battle system is a great addition to already solid gameplay. However, if you’re burned out on the series, there isn’t much here to make it worth coming back to.

Look past the overly-saccharine exterior, and you have an excellent game that marks a strong start for indie releases in 2016.

Overall, Resident Evil 0 HD appears to be a cleaner remaster than its predecessor. However, the enjoyment of the actual gameplay is hurt by the inventory system which ultimately makes it one of the less enjoyable games in the series.
