GameMAG's Reviews

No matter how you felt about undoubtedly polarizing Age of Empires 3 before, the dev teams at Tantalus Media and Forgotten Empires gave us a chance to relive nostalgic days that already long gone. Now this classic game feels a lot more expansive, prettier and acceptable.

7 / 10 - Iron Harvest
Oct 18, 2020

It is worth to give Iron Harvest a chance, at the very least for a great story campaign, unconventional setting and a childlike wonder of seeing mecha-teapots fight themselves to the death.

Star Wars: Squadrons offers some engaging gameplay and mechanical depth, which is great, given the overall focus on the multiplayer. But it's hard to ignore how little of the actuall content there is. You can beat story campaign in just about eight hours, and then you have to spend your time in only two online modes. It doesn't seem like developers are intersted in any post-launch support, so it'quite possible that the game will lose all of it's playerbase rather quickly.

Vaporum: Lockdown is quite an interesting take on Bioshock, with insanely hard puzzles, uninspiring plot, and boring enemy designs. But given how rare the setting is, it's not like you have a lot to choose from.

7 / 10 - Creaks
Oct 9, 2020

You can clearly see that Amanita Design spend way more resources and time on Creaks, but the move from classic point-n-click gameplay was not very smooth. The game is massive and is undoubtedly gorgeous, but sometimes it feels like it's drags on for way too long and the gameplay becomes quite repetitive. The feeling of true excitement that you get for solving a head scratching puzzle is also nowhere to be seen. But all of that means very little when you take Creaks for what it is, especially if you look at it with a fresh pair of eyes.

It's sad to see that Necromunda can't deliver on its full potential, even though the concept itself is great. Good tactical or RTS games, based on Warhammer 40,000 universe is always a treat. We still cherish our memories of Squad Command for PSP, and in 2018 it was Mechanicus' turn. Rogue Factor had a solid foundation with Mordheim, but then went nowhere with it, which is quite disappointing.

7 / 10 - FIFA 21

FIFA 21 marks another update to the formula without major innovations. But it's still a fun game.

Paradise Killer is a very intriguing detective story with an interesting and deep world and well-developed characters, which suffers from a number of shortcomings.

Even if the developers will manage to fix all the gamebreaking bugs with subsequent patches, the core issues like a weak battle system, mediocre plot and lazy worldbuilding are not going anywhere. The only thing that can motivate you to see this game through is Ary's never ending charisma and a chance to see some narrative closure.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is one of the best platformer games we've played in recent years. Toys for Bob managed to perfectly encapsulate the soul of original trilogy, and then create more with it, by not only repeating old gameplay tricks with new and shiny graphics, but also by offering something completely new, which would definitely make all the fans bursting with joy.

Even if some can still argue about how good the gunplay feels by today's standards, there is one thing we can say for sure - this remaster is unapologetically lazy.

8 / 10 - Serious Sam 4
Sep 25, 2020

When everything is trying to reinvent itself in the forms of a remakes and reboots, Serious Sam 4 stays true to franchise's identity, which still feels great, even by today standards.

We have a solid remake, that simultaneously stays true to the original game, but also gives it a fresh coat of paint. Some much-needed changes are made to both the narrative and the gameplay, even if not all of them will sit right with the core fans. Mafia: Definitive Edition is a great way to experience one of the best games in it's genre in a completely new light.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a really strange case, but in a good way. It's outstandingly beautiful, engrossing the player with some great narrative, telling a story about love, friendship and giant mechs. But the overal stucture of the game often exist in an unplesant dissonance, and it's hard to ingnore that the tactical battles can't provide any real gameplay challenge. If you can live with all of that, you should defenetly try Vanillaware's newest project. If only for the chance to unravel intriguing mystery of a talking cat.

Shadows of New York is an unremarkable story that tries to hold your attention with relevant themes, but ultimately fails into abyss of triteness and weak presentation. If you crave some good vampire story, just read an Anne Rice novel, instead of wasting your time with this game.

If only Square Enix dropped subpar english dubbing and instead focused their efforts on more polished visuals and multiplayer modes, the game could have been a perfect remake.

Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show shows some really stylish visual and great characters designs, but sadly the game is far from polished state, which is disappointing, given that it's not an early access release.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is an amazing retrospective that shows us the first few steps that the series took going into three-demensional space. Even in this original form the trilogy easily stands tall among most modern games with it's timeless game design. All we can do now is just appreciate this masterpieces and celebrate Mario's anniversary together.

7 / 10 - Wasteland 3
Sep 15, 2020

Wasteland 3 is in no way a bad or a mediocre game. You can clearly see the passion that went into it's development. You will spend hours upon hours with dozens of well thought out non-linear quests, while interacting with easy to use and well made role-playing systems, all of which gives you true old-school gaming experience. But at the same time Wasteland 3 just can't offer anything we haven't seen before, and myriad of countless technical hiccups is definitely not something we expected to see.

SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE is a classic standalone add-on with some new features. The developers did not call it a sequel, but they tried to expand on the unique idea of the original.
