Lovecraft Untold Stories 2 completely shifts its perspective and its core mechanics in comparison to its predecessor. Sadly, it’s for the worse. Poor enemy AI along with some beautiful, but busy visuals make this mix between roguelite and story a huge pass from me.

8 / 10.0 - Foretales
Sep 27, 2022

Foretales offers a unique experience when it comes to creating a narrative via cards, although some systems are bit too “rigged” for my tastes due to preserving the “boardgame feel”, it’s still one that I recommend for the characters and how beautifully told it is.

Return to Monkey Island treats itself as a game that never left. In some ways, the franchise itself never truly did. Terrible Toybox uses that to do its own spin on the current adventure game formula and while some elements are for the diehard fans, it also asks some interesting questions regarding gaming as a whole and how we perceive the games that defined us as we grow older.

10 / 10.0 - Roadwarden
Sep 14, 2022

Packed with some of the best writing of 2022, Roadwarden’s story will grip you right from the start. Take your time, read all the entries and get lost in its beautiful and desolate world. It’s the perfect blend of RPG, adventure and visual novel that can stand it on its own against some of the best games of the last 10 years.

Call of the Wild: The Angler has beautiful vistas, a huge map and a big variety of rods to choose from, but its mix of rather simplistic and obtuse fishing, along with some serious visual issues, turns the game from an “essential fishing game for fans” to a “wait until it gets better”. Expansive Worlds has a great track record of improving things over time, so it might be worth a look in 2023 or beyond.

8.5 / 10.0 - Way of the Hunter
Aug 23, 2022

“Way of the Hunter” is off to a strong start and with big ambitions in mind. Whilst it falls short of other hunting games in terms of weapons and variety, it more than makes up for it with its beauty, its incredible ballistic system and some of the finest maps I’ve encountered in the genre.

6 / 10.0 - Saints Row
Aug 22, 2022

The biggest issue with the new “Saints Row” isn’t the lack of humor or well written characters, but consistency and a coherent narrative. In some ways, the franchise is too afraid of its past and still struggles to find its footing and look to the future.

7 / 10.0 - Arcade Paradise
Aug 18, 2022

Arcade Paradise might be a great game if you have a huge soft spot for the arcade era and doesn’t mind a very superficial management game. Although for me — someone who lived largely detached from that universe — it felt like a chore.

9 / 10.0 - Cult of the Lamb
Aug 17, 2022

Cult of the Lamb shows that mixing management and dungeon crawling works extremely well if you know which better parts to take of each genre. It grabs you until the end. A fantastic effort by Massive Monster and one the team should be proud of.

8 / 10.0 - Hazel Sky
Aug 9, 2022

“Hazel Sky” tries a bit too hard to create a more involved narrative that becomes more convoluted than it should be. Still, its main beats are heartwarming and lovely. One of those rare games where you sit and stare what you experienced for some good hours.

8 / 10.0 - Hell Pie
Aug 2, 2022

While a lot of "Hell Pie" jokes might not land as well some of the later areas are stretched too thin, It's still a great platformer with extremely rewarding movement, secrets and full of collectibles for you to enjoy.

What should’ve been the perfect entry for both Hatsune Miku fans and newcomers alike turns into a misstep in the Project DIVA Series. Mega Mix+ sure is a great game with an amazing amount of content, but the PC issues like stuttering and odd frame drops takes out the fun on completing most songs above “hard”.

As someone who has barely any nostalgia for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Shredder’s revenge turned out to be a fantastic beat ‘em up on its own. Stages are short but sweet, there’s enough gameplay mechanics to please both newcomers and veterans alike, and it’s just a blast all around to play. While I wished for more stage variety, I am sure to keep coming back to this for many years to come.

Stellaris: Overlord biggest issue is being released at stage that Paradox’s blend of Grand Strategy received so many “overhauls” over the years that makes the new interface changes even more confusing. If you’re willing to look past that, you’ll find a great expansion that affects every type of player, along with ideas and concepts that are beautifully executed.

Galactic Civilizations IV tries its best to fit the current 4X “landscape”, but while it has some great concepts on its belt, their execution is currently lacking. Stardock does have a solid base to build upon, but it might take a while until Galactic Civilizations IV reaches its full potential.

6 / 10.0 - Nightmare Reaper
Apr 12, 2022

Nightmare Reaper’s core design is something to be lauded for, but its so called “variety” and maps runs shallow halfway through the campaign. It’s a game more about quantity than quality. It can be enjoyable in small bursts, but it’s far from the great shooter it could’ve been.

8.5 / 10.0 - Young Souls
Mar 17, 2022

Young Souls does a fine balancing act of providing an engaging story, good coop elements and solid dungeon crawling. While it can get a bit too chatoic at times, it still hold up among some of the most fun I had in 2022 so far.

10 / 10.0 - Infernax
Mar 7, 2022

Infernax is a great throwback to the “open world” type of exploration from the 8-bit era whilst taking some of its elements and making it more accessible to newer players. As someone who mostly grew up playing on PC, I had a blast playing it and finding out about its inspirations.

8 / 10.0 - Hero's Hour
Mar 3, 2022

Hero’s Hour takes what is great about the Heroes of Might & Magic formula, adds some extra spice of chaos and the end result is a great turn based / real time strategy RPG hybrid that doesn’t take itself seriously but at the same time, knows its audience. It does fall short in certain areas such as map generation, but this will be fixed in due time. A great game to spend an evening with.

Considering how well-established Total War: Warhammer is as a franchise; its third installment takes bold directions in terms of combat and sieges. Easy to grasp, hard to master and filled to the brim with great factions.
