The 3D throne room might not be as interesting as I expected, but the events and the new culture System is what makes Royal Court shine. A must have for those who want more roleplay in Crusader Kings 3.

10 / 10.0 - OlliOlli World
Feb 4, 2022

OlliOlli comes back with easily the best game Roll7 has ever made. It’s packed with charisma, great levels, an amazing cast and still provide solid tools for newcomers to learn the ropes. The addition of better leaderboards and a rivals system along with some much needed movement revamp makes OlliOlli World a must have for skate and arcade fans.

Logic Artists takes what could've been a very “safe bet” in terms of setting, turns it upside down and creates interesting parallels between interpersonal relationships, power fantasy, privilege and the lack of it. Sometimes aims a bit too high in terms of game mechanics, but that’s a minor issue to what is one of the most compelling games of the “Expeditions” franchise.

Although shorter than expected, Siberian Mayhem is packed with amazing fights, mostly great level design and shows some of the strengths of Serious Sam as a shooter. Sadly, Timelock Studio — much like Croteam — still struggles to find a good final note, making the last level more like a chore than fun.

Rhesus & Memnon is a great addition to Troy both in terms of content and a more friendly user interface. While Memnon steals the show with its unique “horde” mode, the DLC is still a formidable achievement on how Creative Assembly is able to polish, reinvent itself and its systems.

9.5 / 10.0 - Demon Turf
Nov 25, 2021

Filled with charisma, extra modes, exciting levels and a very interesting approach to level design and what constitutes what I would say the “bare essentials of 3D Platformer but shown in a unique way”, Demon Turf is one of 2021s hiddem gems. A must play for both platformer fans and anyone slightly interested in level design.

Much like other “Immersion Packs” for Europa Universalis IV, Origins is a must for those who are interested in the Africa region — and it does an amazing job at making the nations in it more interesting to play. Still, both it and the patch that accompanies it is a huge step forward for the grand strategy after Leviathan’s disastrous launch.

8 / 10.0 - Far Cry 6
Oct 27, 2021

While Far Cry 6 still does little to change an overused formula, the changes speak volumes. The new ammo system along with a more fleshed out protagonist and how some side missions are tackled shows that Ubisoft is very much aware that things are getting old. It still does provide a fun romp, but I am hoping to see things shake up much more in the next installment.

Midnight protocols mixes up adventure, hacking and turn based strategy to an extent that very few developers manage to pull it off. It doesn’t stick to stereotypes and presents itself with a strong identity yet very utilitarian UI. Another must have for those craving a good story or just some good ol’ “hacking”.

Hot Wheels Unleashed nails it with an amazing track builder and car editor, great variety of unique cars and some great AI and tracks. Sadly, the unnecessary addition of lootboxes — even though they can be only bought with in game currency — drags the campaign down. It is still great fun with friends, be it online or split screen.

5.5 / 10.0 - Arboria
Sep 13, 2021

While Arboria has some strong artstyle, its roguelite mechanics feel more like a massive padding to hide reused enemies, a unfun combat system and lack of weapon variety. For a year filled with great roguelites, this one should be on the bottom of your list.

Mythos might slip up here and there regarding Total War Saga: Troy base mechanics when it comes to the mystical creatures, but the introduction of new unit types — offering a much needed army composition variety — puts the game at its best since its debut back in 2020.

8.5 / 10.0 - RiMS Racing
Aug 24, 2021

RiMS Racing biggest misstep is trying to create a bridge between very different types of players. Some mini games are unnecessary, and the telemetry system lacks what sims racers want. But once you get that out of the way — even if barebones in content — is by far one of the best motorcycle sims out there.

I didn’t expect to enjoy Lawn Mowing Simulator this much. It’s not as “in depth” as other sims of the genre like Bus Simulator or Farming Simulator. But still, it’s a very good game if you just want to mow the lawn and have a genuine relaxing time. Just try not to hit the flowers!

9.5 / 10.0 - The Forgotten City
Jul 30, 2021

Filled with interesting plot twists, clever writing, great excelent pacing and with attention to detail, The Forgotten City is by far one of the best adventure games of 2021. Play it for the story, stay for the characters, the architecture and how one event connects to the other. An absolute must have for fans of the genre.

The new characters are just the tip of the iceberg of Mr. X Nightmare’s additions. Along with a very well done survival mode and some really interesting that adds even more depth to Streets of Rage 4 combo system, this DLC is a must have for anyone that is a beat ‘em up fan.

9.5 / 10.0 - Boomerang X
Jul 9, 2021

With a sublime execution, Boomerang X wastes no time in getting you into the action. While chaotic in nature, it settles you in a flow state that a lot of first-person action games struggle to. To me, it was like feeling inner peace. An absolute recommendation to anyone who wants to have their reflexes tested or just want a well packaged and fun action game.

8 / 10.0 - Roguebook
Jun 25, 2021

Roguebook can be a bit too reliant on RNG and give you the false impression of “simplicity” due to its aesthetic. But do not be fooled, there’s an extremely compelling and deep deckbuilder with a lot of original ideas. Just get ready for some hard — but rewarding — learning curve.

Gameplay-wise, Red Solstice 2: Survivors is amazing, but the amount of bugs and connectivity issues regarding both single-player campaign and the online multiplayer makes it the worst entry in the franchise. It’s better to wait for updates, or maybe until we colonize Mars.

8.5 / 10.0 - Mighty Goose
Jun 21, 2021

Both appealing to newcomers and veterans, Mighty Goose might be one of the best homages to Metal Slug whilst doing its own thing. It does fall short in some aspects, such as limited routes and not enough enemy variety, but it makes up with a lot of humor and upgrades.
